Taking sick days

I am relatively new at my job. Been there for about 5 months. Today I took my 4th sick day. I feel like this is a lot and I am worried about what my coworkers will think. For what it worth, I am really sick with a 102 fever.

  • "You'd worry a lot less about what other people think of you if you realized how infrequently they do."  :)  Unless your boss says something, don't waste time worrying because it's not something you can change.  If you've been legitimately sick, what can you do?  Of course, you just make sure that you take as few as possible since you know you've taken more than what's probably the norm.  FWIW, as far as I can tell, this winter has been a bitch for illnesses - kids AND adults.  Feel better.

  • Taking 4 sick days in 5 months is not uncommon.  Especially during cold and flu season.  I wouldn't worry about it unless your manager is asking you about it.

  • Yep, I'd rather a co-worker who is really sick just stay home rather than risking infecting the rest of us. I would personally only be annoyed if that person wasn't adequately catching up once they're back in the office, or otherwise slacking at work.

Like PP said, don't worry about it unless your boss says something to you :)

  • Just do the best you can. I've been in my job for 3months and have had to take 2.5 days PTO in the past month for snow days. It sucks but there's nothing I can do about it. And we're expecting another storm tonight.
