How long does the NST go for?
I've got to do it twice a week starting soon, no idea how much time I need to carve out for that.
My doctors like to get 30 minutes of monitoring, but the whole process usually takes a little longer. The baby has to cooperate and stay on the monitor and has to be moving enough during that time. I usually don't get out of there in less than 45 min.

Here's another one. I belong to a very close knit but very large group of friends. Any time one of us has a baby the hospital room has always been jam packed. It's a very tight group and we're all very close to eachother's children so I'm sure when I'm in the hospital the same will occur, which I do look forward to. That being said I want to make sure I'm doing what's right for breastfeeding so that I'm more likely to be successful.
How often, in the hospital, do you think I'll be trying to breastfeed? I'm just wondering how often I'll be taking my baby back from people who came to visit/hold him and how often I'll be whipping out my boobs lol
ok brace yourselves ladies, this one is gross and tmi and flame worthy and even as i type this i don't know if i will post...BUT....here goes nothing.....
a woman that just visited our office said that she knew each time she was going into labour because her vag started to smell like fish/period....i chuckled but she didn't even crack a smile and then she left without me being able to ask her if she was being serious. My co-worker (who is also pg for the first time) and i need to know - IS THIS TRUE?!?!

This i would like to know because i keep smelling the metallic period smell and go check to make sure i am not bleeding.
Is an "undershirt" the same as a onesie? Looking at lists of clothes to have it says "onesies" and "undershirts", but I thought they were the same? Then other places I've looked say undershirts are better than onesies until the umbilical stump falls off. So confused.

Also confused by this. Our hospital says to bring "seasonally appropriate clothes to wear home (including undershirts)" I have this fear of being the mom that doesn't know how to dress her newborns for winter (In colorado)... But it seems like a sleeper and blankets are enough... We will go from the hospital to the warm car. Am I clueless?

Sorry but I have to laugh at the suggestion to keep your nursery at 73. Our heating bill would be $1000 a month in the winter! Keep your house/nursery at whatever temperature you want, and just dress your baby appropriately. (Similar to how you are comfortably dressed.)
I have posted about this before, I did it with DS and will do it with this LO
It drives me batty when people think that just because a baby is a baby, that means they will magically explode if a drop of cold air touches their skin.

Such a cool article! It makes sense to bundle them up but it makes me wonder about their face? Is the whole stroller covered and thus no wind (I'm thinking frostbite w exposed skin) ... I can't imagine putting a ski mask on a baby lol

The prams are not covered, and they use something like this
Cute! All in all I love hearing about different cultural trends. So cool

All.of.this. It keeps freaking me out. Would love to hear a STM+ opinion on this!
When should I install my car seat? DH was planning on just throwing the whole box in the car on the way to the hospital.... this seems a wee bit too last minute lol

Today.
You don't understand. I'm from Boston. We're very superstitious people. If I install it today, I'll be in labor tomorrow :P
@farmboyswife. Probably a little hormones mixed in =] its a change, when i first quit my job in december H was also very snippy. We argued a lot until we got a new routine down.
Also, he's probably realizing how close it is till baby comes now that you are on maternity leave!!
Basically what @farmboyswife said. I installed the base in the car. I wanted to make sure we could get a good install right away so we had to time to exchange it for something else if I didn't' fit. The car seat part is in the house at the moment. I figure if we did get into an accident, at least we could just buy a new base.
Tomorrow there is a local car seat clinic and I am hoping to go get the install checked. I'll bring the seat with me and then take it back into the house.
Congrats to my TTC buddy Madeline! Cheering for all the strong 3T ladies!

I never sniffed my vag before birth.. I'm curious..
I haven't even seen mine in months let alone be flexible enough to smell it! Am I the only one?
I'm guessing you guys don't have the pregnancy super sniffers? I smell way too much...it's really a burden considering I work with a transient population without frequent access to facilities. (
My sniffer is in full gear- first time ever I almost gaged while putting a catheter in a lady.
Ok..so I just thought about this last night. I plan to make padsicles (here is what I'm thinking https://www.tallmomtinybaby.com/2013/05/padsicles-new-mom-perfect-companion.html?m=1) for when I come home from hospital. Even though I hope I'm superwoman and have no tearing, I know how sore i was just from my D&C. But my question is, if I have a padsicle on, it most likely won't absorb any bleeding, right? Any STM+ used these before and how did you handle bleeding?
I'd love to know as well. Maybe they would just need to be changed more often?
Also wondering on this.
STMs... help us n00bs out, plz.
Did we ever get a response to this clearly not dumb question? I don't see one. Halp!

Athlete's foot, any home remedies that are safe? Apple cider vinegar? I have been having itchy feet for about a week and when I asked my OB she said it was non pregnancy related. Only after I left did I think to ask about OTC fungal creams and now it is 3 am and they are closed for the weekend. I don't feel like this is big enough to call after hours, but I can't sleep because itching to waking me up. Dr Google says check with your dr during pregnancy before use.
At how many weeks are you supposed to get the strep B test?
I'm getting mine at my 36 week appointment. They were nice enough to give me the heads up at my last appointment (34 weeks).
Usually a month before you edd. With DS I had mine done twice, once in the early 30's because I had some issue.. I forget what it was.
I just did mine at my last week appointment - 36 weeks give or take a few days. I was lucky to get to do my own though.
i got to do my own too!

I'll be the first to admit I haven't read through this whole thread, so I apologize if this had already been asked. For fellow Canadians, how did you go about applying for EI for mat leave? From what I've read it sounds like I have to wait till I'm off work. Is that right? I don't want to wait too long and lose out but I can't figure out how to apply. I feel like a moron and my boss is absolutely no help.
I have no idea if I figure it out soon I will send you a message. Apparently doing it online is easiest and now your workplace sends your roe not you.
1. I am loving this thread! I think it would be a great idea to get it Stickied so it's easier to find, and attracts newbs like me.
2. My dumb question for the day: my baby shower is in two weeks, and my aunt and great aunt are the ones organizing it. Any big event in my family is a potluck type dealio, and I almost always bake something besides whatever I'm asked to bring. Since they told me I'm not supposed to do anything at all except give them addresses, would it be considered rude/dumb to bring cookies or something? I took a few different (small) baked goods to the shower that DH's friends and their mothers threw for us (more for him) a couple weeks ago, and their response was to giggle at me a little, and then to say "It's your shower, you can do whatever you want!"
I'm not talking like a super fancy cake or a complicated dish that I would bring to a party for someone else; just like some sugar cookies (DH's favorite) or the banana pudding my BFF has been saying she's been craving (I am the diet devil that sits on her shoulder all day! )
What is this tightening feeling in my stomach? It comes on suddenly and lasts a couple of seconds, sometimes longer. It's not painful, but kind of intense.

Alright, I've got one. My feet have definitely grown in this pregnancy from 1/2 to a full size up. I know that's normal, but is it permanent? I'm a bit of a shoe whore so I've been stubbornly refusing to buy new shoes in hopes that my feet will shrink back down somewhat. My toes are now rubbing the end of my tennis shoes and with the swelling now.... well, it's obviously getting uncomfortable as anyone would expect. I'm really trying to be as frugal as possible with non-baby related items. Do I just suck it up for the next 4 wks on the optimistic premise that this is only temporary (I'm off work so I'm not out and about much with my too small shoes) or do I say F-it and go shoe shopping?

Probably a BH
I thought BH would be painful and in the uterus rather than stomach? Is it bad that I'm getting them this early?
When are humidifiers supposed to be used? Is it an all the time thing? Do they need it more when they're smaller? Or is it just for when they're sick?
I think this depends on your region and how dry the air is where you are. Here we use them at first all the time because the air is so dry here. Then as LO gets to be a couple months old we'll taper it to just sleeping for a couple months and then go from there. Now with DS we can use it only when he is sick.
This. We live on the Gulf Coast and our humidity is always 150% so i didn't even register for one.
I've had the occasional BH since about week 20. Sometimes they are a little uncomfortable, but as long as they go away when I sit down and drink some water my OB said not to worry.
Now that I think of it, I wonder if FTMs might get them earlier or more often since our utes haven't been this stretched out before?
@DaisyCat11 I second @Laura8388, go onto the government of Canada website (gc.ca) and click Benefits, then there is a link for 'Families' or something like that. It's way easier to apply on line, don't try getting through the phone number unless you have special circumstances and absolutely have to - the wait time is usually well over an hour...

also when you have the fire department check proper installation, does it have to be seat + base, or will they check only the base?
