Trying to Get Pregnant

Not how I wanted to do this (BFP/Possible Loss/Progesterone questions/Sorry it's a big mess)

Month: 14/14 CD/DPO: 35/16 (tested on Monday) EDD: 10/1 (I am not optimistic) What we did: CBE Advanced OPK, Timing: O-4,-3,-2, O Symptoms: I'm exhausted. Like nappy for hours and going to bed early. Lots of creamy/eggwhite discharge. How I told H: He knew I was testing Monday, and knew I'd call my doctor if it was positive. So we were texting later that morning and I said, btw, it was positive, called the doctor (romantical, I know). Mushy stuff: I love this board so much. I would not have made it through the past 14 months, the past 7 in particular, without the support I've found here. Really. You are the greatest. But I might not be leaving, so I'm trying not to get to hopeful. I'm so scared, and I'm so grateful to be part of this community. The non-Mushy, I need advice stuff: So, my first beta was 29. Not great. That was Tuesday, which puts me around 4w6d, and/or 16DPO. I know the doubling matters more than the numbers, and the numbers are in the realm of normal, but I'm not excited. I go in again tomorrow. My doctor hasn't checked my progesterone yet, which I feel is kind of a fail. Apparently, my progesterone was never checked during my other 2 m/cs, and I'm not sure why. I feel like just knowing that number would be better, so I left my doc a message today that I'd like a progesterone check with the next beta. I don't want to be pushy, but if I'm losing pregnancies or not able to support them over a pill or suppository, I'm going to be pissed. Everyone I've talked to IRL is surprised that given my history my doctor didn't write a scrip that I could start taking with a BFP. Am I right? Is this something that should be checked? I get pregnant, I've been pregnant every 4 months since June, but I feel like the staying pregnant thing is what needs to be worked on. Sorry this is a mess. I switched to Firefox, but TB still hates me. Many cookies and drinks to anyone who makes it through.

  • Congrats. I'm keeping my FX for you and I hope this is your sticky baby. I wouldn't focus to much on Betas right now, 1 number doesn't mean anything.
    Fucking bump!!!!

  • I'm hoping those numbers increase so dramatically that you think you are having quadrapaloozatuplets.

Keep us updated on the testing and the request for progesterone check. We're here for you if you need to vent!!
  • Congratulations, but I realize your stress and concern! I really hope this one sticks, good luck with the doctor!

    Congrats on the bfp!
A beta hcg of 29 at 16 dpo is perfectly normal. Don't work yourself up over it until you get the next number. You have no spotting (that you mentioned) or any other cause to be concerned.
As for progesterone, is there any reason you suspect that is the problem? Do you have short LPs and/or lots of spotting before AF? If you have normal LPs, your progesterone is likely normal. But it doesn't hurt to ask for it. ETA: I changed my mind, with two early-ish losses I think it is an easy thing to either rule out or treat.
Please make sure to update us!

  • Thanks so much guys! I hadn't gotten teary before I posted, but now I'm a little misty-eyed (in a wonderful, I'm being supported way). I'm trying to relax, but the whole lots of CM thing is kind of terrifying because I keep waiting for spotting, so I'm going to the bathroom every 5 minutes. I can't call my doc directly, but I did leave a message in pretty strong (not impolite, just adamant) wording that I really feel like I need a progesterone level so that I/we can know what we're dealing with. It's also a stressful day because H's big PT test is happening right now. He'll do great, he always does, but he's been stressed all week. Blerg. I get my blood draw at 9am tomorrow.

DMB I got a little rapid-heartbeaty when I saw this post.....hoping like hell this little B sticks, and GL to huz!!!

My only anecdotal (therefore not helpful) advice about the progesterone is I DO know one friend who had 2 losses before they tested her and it was "as easy as" taking supplements to keep the next pregnancy. Regardless of what anyone says, getting it tested is well within the scope of normal and your doc should do it! FX for you!

  • 1) CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!  FX this one sticks around!!!

    2) Really surprised about the progesterone.  I technically could sustain a pregnancy but it would be iffy for me since my levels are borderline low.  I'm given a progesterone suppository to start the day after my IUI to build up higher levels in case I get a BFP, and then I'd have to take it until I was 12 weeks along and the placenta took over.  I'd push for a test, definitely.  If only for peace of mind, you know?

Keep us posted!!  Really hoping this is it for you!!!

  • Congrats! I'm sorry this is stressing you out. Don't feel like you are being pushy. Sometimes you have to take charge and not take a back seat with doctors. Yes they should check your progesterone. Hopefully your next set up betas come back awesome!! GL!!
  • Congrats & FX so hard that this is your rainbow! Given your history, I would definitely push to have your progesterone tested. If that number is low, suppositories are a very easy fix.

April 29, 2014 - First RE appt., right tube needs to be removed and possibly left also if

it's bad too. RE suggests going straight to IVF

June 4, 2014 - LAP/HSC and unexpected endo. removed but tubes got to stay!

June 13, 2014 - Post-Op appointment. We decide where to go next since main issue

  • Small update: So I left my doctor the message asking about the progesterone test this morning. Normally she calls back by 5. I can't call her directly, but I call the answering service, she hasn't called back. So, I don't know if she ordered the progesterone test for tomorrow. When I go to the lab I'm going to ask if it was ordered and maybe say it should have been if it wasn't. If they don't run it I'm going to call my doc and leave another message. I've mentioned progesterone to her a couple of times (once before we started testing and were talking about losses and once when I went before I got some preliminary bloodwork). I honestly don't know why she'd fight me on testing it or starting supplements because it seems like the easiest thing to do. I'm going to go nuts not knowing. I'd really love it if she would have gone ahead and called in the prescription and I could pick it up while I'm at the hospital tomorrow anyway.

  • First of all, CONGRATS!!

Second, I think you have valid concerns.  I don't think asking for a progesterone test is out of the question.  And if it turns out there is an issue with that, it's something that is a *relatively* easy fix.  I also think it's a little surprising your doc hasn't addressed this already given your history of loss.

So happy for you, and I hope this gets worked out!
    I agree with this.
