Birth Control & Hair Loss

I don't normally post, just a lurker. But I've been dealing with hair breakage and thinning since my son was born in May 2012. I finally have answers. Apparently some people have a follicle sensitivity to birth control associated with no or low estrogen. I changed my pill back to combo and in a month have an inch of new growth and looking 1000 times healthier and fuller. I was taking Camilla, a progesterone only pill because of breast feeding. I had initially wanted a copper implant, but a folly of errors kept me on the pill. Anyway, I wanted to share because I've been suffering for a year with awful hair. Used to having a big red awesome mane. It took me researching before I could find answers, my ob/gyn simply said women lose fair after pregnancy. I knew something more was wrong. Now I'm on ortho cept and my moods improved also. Eventually want to go to the implant, but not sure of plans for a second yet. It's only been about 5 weeks, so I really hope this is the end of the hair issues.

  • I'm normally a lurker too but I read your post and wanted to say its awesome you figured out the cause of your problem. I've been struggling with extra hair breakage and loss since my son was born 8/11. I think I need to look more into my cause as well.
