July 2014 Moms

Where did you buy your crib?

Or nursery set? Bonus points for the linked model!

We have a target, bru, baby depot and pottery barn.

Is the mattress and crib a standard size? Like all queen mattresses fit queen size beds? Or do cribs differ in size?

I know we're not getting a changing table because I think they're pointless. I'd rather do the pad on top the dresser and half the time when I nannied I changed the babies in their pnp or floor or couch.

If you don't get a changing table, what is a good item to have instead? What did you wish you had and what was pointless?

Glider, crib, dresser and ____in nursery.

We got our crib from target almost 3 years ago so I don't remember the name. It's a dark cherry finish. Our bedding set came from bru, it's like little woodland creatures.

    Crib mattresses in one size

Eta (hit post too soon) we put a changing pad on the dresser, but never used it. We changed where ever in the house. He slept next to our bed so I just threw a towel down on the bed and had a little basket of changing stuff.

We're going to get an organic one so my tin foil hat wearing husband can feel better. • We are planning in going all out ikea :) for changing table we have a small table that we are just gonna use with a changing pad. I am also insisting on having a pad in the bathroom.

I do however expect many changes will be done on the fly!
  • We bought DS's crib off of Craigslist. Stokke - fantastic deal
    https://www.stokke.com/en-us/beds/stokke-sleepi-bed/product-concept.aspx
However, DS started life cosleeping with us and never took to the crib. He transitioned from a mattress on the floor next to our bed to one in his own room. Maybe the next one will use it.

For a changing table we just put a pad on top of a dresser. Get as wide a changing table or dresser as you can fit in the room so there is room for the other stuff you need for diaper changes and so your kid doesn't out grow it too fast.

There was a chair in the room as well, but I rarely used it for nursing. We did most of our nursing in bed or in the living room in front of the TV.

  • Our crib is from JCPenney and I believe most are standard size. We did changing pad on the dresser, have a glider with small table next to it, and a bookcase. We did not do a bedding set. In my opinion they are a big waste of money since I wouldn't use at least some it it (bumpers, that stupid hangy-thingy to hold diapers, crib skirt, etc.). Heck, DS still doesn't sleep with a quilt...he can't even keep a blanket on him. We just did some fitted sheets and most of our blankets people made and gifted us. I am also not into the matchy-matchy sheets, curtains, etc. so it fit my design aesthetic as well.

Our crib was available online from Target and BRU. I searched some more and found it on Amazon and Overstock.com. At the time, Overstock was the least expensive. We got the matching dresser with a changer top. I did all changes on the dresser from day one.

    Crib: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000FTD1U2?vs=1
    Dresser: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000FT7NWE/ref=pd_aw_sims_1?pi=SL500_SS115

We skipped the bedding set, because I didn't want to use crib bumpers. We bought a bunch of cute fitted sheets. Much cheaper.

I skipped the glider, we have a recliner in the living room, so I did all my feedings there.

We got ours from Costco, they still have it. Super good deal for such amazing quality! Crib is a 4-in-1 convertible that comes with all conversion rail kits (all you have to buy is crib mattress and then later a full mattress) for $399 and dresser is also $399. I couldn't be happier! https://www.cafekid.com/morgan.html ETA: the changing table top comes off the dresser, so it can be a regular dresser!

We haven't gotten ours yet, but are going to go with this:
    Crib: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004ZWRHT6/ref=s9_simh_gw_p75_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=12XD5HKMXMKTYYEWMWSX&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200382&pf_rd_i=507846

    Dresser: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0051GJ8QK/ref=s9_simh_gw_p75_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_r=12XD5HKMXMKTYYEWMWSX&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200422&pf_rd_i=507846

The reviews aren't all that great on the dresser, but I've never had a bad experience with Amazon's customer service, and it sounds like the manufacturer is pretty easy to deal with also.  We are prime members, so yay to free shipping!  I would have loved to get a stained wood crib, but we have a log cabin with wood paneling in literally every room and wood floors...just too much wood!

I'm going to measure the opening for the mattress after we assemble just to make sure we get a good fit before we buy.

We go ours from kmart. Crib and mattress was $150 or so. It was delta brand which target has, at least they do around here.

  • Target crib for under $150.
I like having a changing table for the storage piece. We store DS's extra blankets, sheets, diapers, wipes, etc on its shelves.
  • Both of our Cribs came from Walmart. They are the Graco. They are very affordable but also well-made and very sturdy. I'm pretty sure that plenty of stores sell them you would just need to look it up online.

  • Sorry stuck in quotes

We got our crib at Babies R Us. It's a Baby Cache but I forget which model. We also got the matching dresser and put a changing pad on top instead of using a changing table, which was a great idea. We also had a glider in the nursery and a small bookshelf. It was the perfect amount of furniture. I think most cribs and mattresses are standard sizes, but double check. Also if you put the changing pad on top of the dresser, get one of those non-skit mats at Target (in the section with cleaning supplies I think) and put it underneath - it helps a lot.
Downstairs, we changed and still change DD on a blanket on the floor. We have two that we rotate. Works great for us.

  • Crib from wal mart, Baby Mod was the brand I think. I really like the modern look of it and the price was right. Glider and dresser were bought at a local furniture store and cost a small fortune.

We are also getting this crib/changing table. Love the continual functionality of the pieces. A little spendy, but I want something that feels and looks sturdy. We were given an armoire (children's size) and dresser from a friend that will work perfectly with this crib. We haven't decided on a chair for the room yet though.

I especially like the curved front for easy baby scooping :)

  • I haven't got a crib yet, but I really like bookshelves in nursery a because they are excellent storage. Also, a trunk/toy box. I have to give up the bookshelf this time though because I have to have an armoire (no closet) and it's a smaller room so there won't be room for it.

  • IKEA crib, and we will be getting a second this time. Vintage dresser, and a changing table we got from a friend. We've used it a lot, but I wouldn't buy one. We bought a nice glider with ugly fabric on craigslist and had it recovered. It matches the room perfectly, and I loved being able to customize it.
  • we got ours from DH's oldest brother & wife its in great condition and wood. it's not what i wanted i had my eyes set on a bark wood one from babys r us but heyit's free. I was looking online on babys r us to find ones i liked but then i looked on kijiji for gently used ones for low price i found some really nice ones no scratches/ not broken for over half the price of brand new and they still looked brand new

  • We haven't bought a bedroom set for this baby yet.
For my daughter, we went to a real furniture store and bought a complete bedroom set. The crib converts to a toddler bed (which she is in now) and then a twin bed when needed. It's great construction, 100% real wood and sturdy with no weight limit.
It's held up great and will easily last another 5-8 years maybe longer!

We are moving right before this baby so I won't buy anything until we are moved in and settled. The baby sleeps in our room the first 4-6 months anyways so I'm not in a rush to buy something.

  • My SIL is gifting us her crib, since her kid never used it. There is a changing table at BRU for about $90 that is a close enough cherry color to the crib. I have my great grandmothers rocking chair that will be refinished and DH is going to make some cushions for it. I'll probably pick up a toy bin or bookshelf as well. We'll be in an apetment and more then likely have a tiny room for the baby. I doubt I can fit much more.

Got our crib at Walmart but it's a Graco one so Target has them too. In our nursery is just glider with ottoman, changing table, dresser, crib, & nightstand with books. We have a small apartment so the closet in there is all my space hence the dresser for baby.

My husband works for a mattress store so we just got the mattress through them. They are standard size, should fit all cribs.

  • Nursery for DD consists of crib, dresser, and a oversized living room chair (nursing in a glider was horrible... not enough space, not comfortable).

I used the pack n play's changer until she started to roll over... around 4 months I think?  I always change her on the floor now, and will probably do the same for LO2.

We have a Graco convertible crib... not sure of the exact model.  MIL bought it at Walmart or Target for us.  Standard size... standard size mattress.

  • We are close to making our purchase. It's a convertible crib so baby will have until he/she moves out. The closest thing to a restoration hardware look without the cost. We are getting the dresser as well. We hear the side rails are a waste of money so we're skipping.

  • My plan is IKEA furniture. We've looked and it's affordable and seems nice, and we have a pretty low budget.

But before we buy anything, I want to cruise the local boot fairs and yard sales and see what I can get there!
