Weird Lump on Spine

I noticed an odd bluish-purple mark on my daughter's back a couple days ago. It is on her spine and in the shape of a circle. It has what appear to be superficial blood vessels around it. At her 4 month check up yesterday, I mentioned it to the doctor. She told us to take her in for an ultrasound. Today at her ultrasound I noticed that, underneath the spot on her back there appears to be a sort of lump. The ultrasound technician was not able to give me any information but she told me that she sent the information to both the radiologist and my daughter's pediatrician and that I should be notified within the next couple of days.

I'm freaking out over here. I have no idea what this could be.

Have any of you heard of things like this? The ultrasound technician said it doesn't look like a hemangioma. She has one on her head and they are totally different. Have any of you experienced this?

No clue what this may be, but I wish the best for you and your LO!  Try not to think the worst. It could be something simple that will go away on it's own.  T&P your way.

Thanks for all of your help and concerns. They said that it appears to be a hemangioma that bled, causing the discoloration I saw. Her doctor doesn't believe it is growing. Thank goodness!! 

I will probably still obsessively watch over it until it goes away, but at least I know it isn't harming her
