Too soon?

I've been in my current position for approximately 4 months. The job is ok, and I feel as I am already excelling past some of my peers. To be quite frank, I believe I am over qualified for the position. I would like to stay with my current employer, as I believe there is room for career development. They ask that you remain in your intial position for 9 months, unless you receive management approval. There's a job posting that I would really like to apply to. Is it too soon to ask for management approval?

I would go for it. You never know when opportunities will come up. It sounds like they have a process for applying for jobs when you've been there less than 9 months so why not ask for approval. Just explain that you are happy in your current position but the new one sounds like a great opportunity to further contribute to the employer by doing whatever it is you would be doing in that position.

Yep, go for it.  They say 9 months unless you have management approval.  It's totally worth asking about!  GL!

I agree with PP that you should go for it.  Just be prepared to discuss why you are interested in this job opportunity and what you can contribute in that position.  Be careful about bad mouthing your current position as justification.
