Exercise - sort of a poll

I want to start getting into better shape, even if slowly and gently (since my BM supply dips at the slightest hint of dehydration - annoying), but I am not sure how to start. I want to start a home yoga practice, but there are certain "rules" (like not eating 4 hours before) that I'm not sure I can adhere to.

So, my questions are...

1. Do you exercise?
2. What do you do? How often?
3. How old is your LO?
4. When do you do it and how the f^*% do you find time?!

TIA for your input, ladies!

Re: Exercise - sort of a poll

  • Ive excersised most my life. Like cumpolsive over excersizing, went to the gym to hang out with friends, all my guy friends were meat head marines. Ive fallen off the wagon since having bentley. Note i say this while eating swiss cake rolls.

Im starting to try and get back into things. I find its easiest to work out after i put bentley to bed while i watch tv.

I do a bunch of at home pinterest workouts. Not gonna lie i do the big bang theory workout game if im feeling lazy.

Little man is 5.5 months old.

  • I ran and did floor exercises before I was pregnant. I have a neuro disease that makes me prone to falls so I stopped running when I found out I was pregnant. I continued floor exercises through the second trimester but since I had physical problems and lots of nausea it wasnt consistent. I'm 32 weeks now and I just do squats, leg lifts, and yoga stretches, usually every night.

I'm not short on time yet since LO isn't here, but I usually do them while I'm waiting for the microwave or during a commercial on tv. I do about 50 of each. It helps my circulation and although my butt is still huge it's a better shape. Lol

    1. I do
    2. I usually go on the elliptical and work with free weights. I used to go to the gym 2-3 times a week but then I hurt my shoulder so I haven't gone in a month.
    3. DD is 8 days shy of 7mo
    4. After work, my dad pays for my gym membership and the gym has a daycare in it so I can bring DD with me.

  • 1) I was overwhelmed at first trying to find the time as a single mom, but so glad I did!

    2) I have a gym that has daycare.  It's only $10 extra a month.  I've been taking him there since he was about 6 months old or so.  We haven't had any issues and he loves playing with the kids now.  Sometimes he doesn't want to leave.  I go to spinning classes why he is at daycare, sometimes run on the treadmill.  I also was training for a half-marathon so I have a jogging stroller (can't use it winter in NE though) which we use as well.  I try to work out 3 days a week.

    3) 18 mos

    4) I felt guilty at first for bringing him to gym daycare and not spending time with him, but he loves the interaction with other kids (he doesn't go to regular daycare and is watched by his grandma).  I go after work 2 nights a week and Sat morning.  Would love to go Sunday but the gym daycare is closed.

  • same with the daycare at my gym, I would much rather go on Sunday than Saturday, but they aren't open.  And on Saturdays, they're only open in the AM so I can't even sleep in (not that I would be able to anyway... LOL)

If you consider toting a 21 pound human and her bag full of necessities around all the time exercise then yes, I exercise half my day away.

My brain agrees with you! My belly does not... :(

  • I don't think anyone's belly agree LOL ;)

  • On that note though, i have a facebook story. So, im fb friends with this real special snow flake. She did p90x up till she had her c-section and was back in the gym the day she got home and spent her entire pregnancy bitching about getting fat.

Well her favorite thing too do now is post how shes down two sizes from her prepregnancy weight thanks to breast feeding, working out, and eating right so she is going to write a motivational weight loss/fitness book for mothers.

Best part of this, shes 24 and doesnt have any education beyond high school. This is the last person i want motivating me. An uneducated stay at home wife/mother who barely graduated high school.

  • P90X is some hard shit.  I hurt just hearing about it.  Do you secretly hope she gets back fat and lots of pimples?

I secretly hope she ruined her abs. No joke i wouldnt be doing p90x two days after a c-section. Pretty sure my doctor told me no heavy working out till after my 6 week post partum check up

  • I don't see how having a HS education and being a SAHM have anything to do with fitness..? I only took barely 1 semester of college, but that doesn't mean I'm "uneducated."

But I do have a FB friend similar to the lady you described, though - someone who likes to brag about how fast she lost weight after having a baby and how awesome her metabolism is, etc. It's sooo annoying.

Of course, she's also the kind of person who posted to FB about dilating and how excited she was that she didn't poop during delivery and such. I just... No. lol.

  • Most the reason i say shes uneducated is the crap that comes out of her mouth. She tried to convince me that zinc is unnatural so she wouldnt be using the prescription diaper rash cream her dr told her to use. She claims that having bumpers in her daughters crib was totes safe.

I think the peak of her facebook brilliance was postibg how she thinks her 3 month old is too fat and she thought she should start limiting her daughters feedings.

How is she procreating?! I'm amazed she'd know how sex works

  • I have to admit i wonder if she lets her husband see her naked since she has such a worry of being fat. I also hope she doesnt transfer her food problems to her daughter. Whom is adorable and by no means a fat baby

  • Well, unless she better educates herself on food, fitness, and the effects of body shaming, I don't think that baby is going to learn healthy habits. Unless she wakes up one day like "oh fuck, my mom is batshit crazy..."

It's from kissing, right?  And you for sure can't get pregnant from kissing when Aunt Flo is visiting.

Babies are supposed to be chubby!  Half of their cuteness is stored in those chubby little rolls!  My friend has a 2nd grader who is obviously an obese child.  Both parents are very heavy.  Just makes me sad for the boy.  You know he will be harassed in school and picked last for dodge ball.  Poor kid.

My kid gets chunky for about two days then gets taller, i wish my kid would be a chunk a little longer. Although bentley is a solid little tank and friggin tall.

  • Nope. I was doing Insanity before I became pregnant. Now I make laps to the bathroom. I really want to try yoga.
  • I have a yoga DVD that I used to work out to in my bedroom.  Now with the crib and queen-size bed and the other furniture, there just isn't space. And there is NO WAY I'm yoga-ing in my living room because my dad walks out all the time like "so what are you doing now?" ("GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE!!" usually isn't a good response to his questions)

  • I love yoga super relaxing.

  • I sincerely hope that my pre-pregnancy exercise will buy me some extra endurance during labor.
  • Practice your kegels. That will help a ton AND keep you from peeing whenever you sneeze, cough, laugh... You know, all that stuff.

  • Dude i did keegals and i still peed my pants after pushing ds out of me. At least i did it in my own bathroom

I loved prenatal yoga and pilates. 10 Minute Solution Prenatal Pilates with Lizbeth Garcia was a lifesaver for my back and hips.

  • I have a neuro disease and I might have to start doing preventive rehab before I pop in 7 weeks. While I'm waiting to hear back from the dr a friend of mine offered to work out or walk with me.

Normally I'd be all over that but this particular friend is pretty overweight (but beautiful and nicely shaped) and she won't stop fat bashing. I have/had three brothers and a sister who are/were all morbidly obese and I get really offended when people talk like that. No amount of explaining that to her seems to help. She's just as negative as PPs crazy FB friend, really.
  • I have so many "fat" friends... I can't stand it when people body shame others.  Any of you guys follow The Militant Baker?  This girl is fantastic!

This one was in response to the CEO of Abercrombie who only wanted attractive thin cool people shopping at A&F.

  • She also had a bunch of people send in shots like this (including skinny girls and guys) as a way to fight against body shaming.

  • Those are fantastic! Im kinda team fuck off why do you give a shit what my body looks like. Ive had eating disorders most of my life and that made physically gaining weight to be healthy in my early pregnancy hard.

Also i kinda hate those real women have curves pictures. Those are just skinny shamming. What i love about the pictures roxalot posted is that not once does she bash thin women she just says this is my body deal with it.

She has a whole album on Facebook for this. Seriously, you should follow her.

  • Those are fantastic! Thanks for linking me to that. Bf and i decided fat is a word not allowed to be said around the boys. I have poor body image abd a bad relationship with food both things we dont want to teach the boys
    image
  • That's a good plan, I'm not sure how I'll handle body image with DD, but I hope that I will be able to help her be a good person

  • Honestly i grew up with a mom who talked bad about her body and yo yo dieted in front of me. It definitley played into my issues. Beyond that, the best advice i can give is promote a healthy life style. Eat healthy have healthy snack choices around encouragr active playing. Bf and i decided each of our boys has to try at least one sport once a year until high school.
