Side Lying Question

For those of you who nurse in the side lying position, how do you burp LO afterwards? Do you also burp in side lying or do you sit up to burp? I like the idea of side lying for the sake of sleep/rest but it seems like I need to sit up to burp. Does that defeat the purpose? TIA!

Sit up and burp. Unless we both fall asleep then we just...go to sleep, I don't have a particularly gassy/spitty baby though.

My baby rarely burps with breastfeeding, so I don't burp him either

I have a tried and true motto now: sit up or spit up.

Eta: middle of the night wordz.

For my LO it depends on if she is really excited for food she will burp. When she is being lazy and is just sucking then she won't burp. I only nurse side lying if she is being lazy because I know she won't burp.

I do modified side lying. I lay on my side and sit DS2 up so he is nursing from my top breast. I support his back and neck with my hands. I do this because he is a crazy spit up monster. Also sitting up in this position he will often burp on his own.

I sit him up to burp. I usually wait a min or two after he is done eating and he usually sleeps through the burp process but not always. Sometime I wonder why I bother to burp him though 1/2 the time he won't burp.

We usually fall asleep... No burp. But DS isn't a spitter upper.

I either do this or just not burp at all. She nurses calmly and slowly at night and doesn't really swallow any air at all.

I only do side lying for the last session of the night - between 4 and 6 am. (Too afraid to fall asleep in the middle of the night and smother him. Esp with DH still in bed). Afterwards, we just fall asleep.

LO will burp in the side lying position so I usually stick with that.

She doesn't burp too often so we just go to sleep.

This happened to me. Luckily I woke up to him making weird sounds, but it scared me enough that we don't do it anymore.

We just burp in the side laying position, she usually still burps. We fall asleep pretty often though, then I just burp her if she wakes up fussing.
