changing membranes

Is there are certain amount of time that you should use membranes on a pump before you replace them?  Or do you just replace them if they are damaged?

    Does this apply to the Medela Freestyle? I don't see replacement membranes for this pump but have seen them for the PIS.

    It is a medela.  It is like the PIS but the insurance version.
