Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Solids and breastmilk

Looking at the other post got me thinking...I realized I know nothing about introducing solid foods. My LO is only 3 months and I plan on waiting til 6 months so have awhile but just wondering....when they begin eating solids do they still consume the same amount of breastmilk? I am currently EPing and hope to still be at that time. My LO takes about 4 oz every 3 hours, except at night. So Im just curious if 4 oz would still seem typical at 6 months with solids too?

Re: Solids and breastmilk

  • I'm in the same situation--3 months now, starting solids at 6 and EP.  I think I've heard that their main source is still the milk, and that the solids are just being added in small quantities to get them used to it until a little before their first birthday. After that it goes down I believe.

  • Food is for practice until around 1 year. Until then they should get the majority of their calories from breast milk or formula.

Think of it as teaching them how to eat. That way, by one year (or a little before) they will be able to rock out on table food.
