Jogging Strollers

Has anyone heard of the brand InStep jogging stroller? I'm looking for more "personal" reviews on jogging strollers. I know BOB are good, but the price just hurts to look at.

Any feedback on InStep or other jogging strollers would be great! TIA

  • I have a Jeep brand stroller that I really like! I think its around 150$ I mostly used it for walks, zoo, mall trips etc. Not actual jogging. It does have inflatable tires, not plastic. I got it at babies r us.

  • Baby trend is on sale at Walmart for $89 right now. I'm not a huge fan, but everyone I know who has one likes theirs. Similar to instep.

  • We have a baby trend, and we like it. We also liked the price tag!

I bought an InStep Double and put it together and it just seemed poorly made. We immediately sold it.

  • If you are buying it to run with, you want a BOB.  Check Craigslist or keep an eye out for sales (REI does their semi-annual sale and you can get a good discount).

All of this. We decided to just bite the bullet and get a BOB for our "regular" stroller. We have already begun looking at Craigslist and local consignment stores for used ones. My SIL has the double jogger and can't say anything bad about it. With a little digging and work to find a used one, I think it will be worth it.

  • As a first time mom I thought the price of a BOB was unreasonably high. I mean come on, it's a stroller. But if you are like me (walks around the neighborhood, the mall, the zoo, mommy & me fitness classes, jogging, etc) you will use it TONS. And that's for just one kid. If you have another, depending on the spacing you'll use a stroller all over again. I made the mistake of going cheap on my first few strollers. Note that I said few, I actually went through 4 before we bit the bullet and got a BOB. The first 4 either wore out or just were a pain from the get go. A BOB will hold up through heavy use and multiple children. I have a single and a double and wouldn't recommend any other jogger. The BOB is pricier but it'll last and you can always sell it when you are done.
  • I use a Schwinn turismo and love it. Bought it for the reviews and so glad I did. It navigates really well.

  • I bought the baby jogger city mini on sale on Black Friday and its awesome! It rides so smooth and is really easy to fold up.
  • Can I ask a dumb question that is totally confusing me?  I went to BRU but no one was helpful (like, the total opposite of helpful and just more confusing).

I want to invest in a jogging stroller so that I can exercise with this little one.  I'm a big walking/running person.

But I keep reading that you shouldn't jog with infants?  When is it safe to do so?  And how old should they be when a 'brisk walk' would be OK?

I'm so confused.  I don't know how I am going to do any of this.

  • BOB. BOB. BOB. BOB. Hands down, if you intend to jog you want a BOB! Someone just posted a PSA - they are 40% off on amazon right now!

@lest12, it isn't considered safe to jog with an infant until they have good head and neck control. Most jogging stroller manuals will say at least 6 months. If you are using a car seat adapter, it's fine to go walking with baby when they are little. I started using our jogger for brisk walks around 4-5 months without the car seat but didn't jog until after 6 months. The concern is their little nuggets getting jostled too much. Hope that helps!

  • I saw the sale on Amazon and I think we might go with a BOB due to the pricing.

    However, my next question ...

What is the better carseat that can be used with it?

I saw that Graco and Britax can be used with a BOB adapter.

    Anymore advice???

Thanks for all of the feedback ... I'm a FTM and all this "crap" is overwhelming!

(I say crap lightly ... I'm thrilled to be able to join the mommy club! :))

  • Good idea on the REI semi-annual sale!  My husband and I are avid runners, and I've heard great reviews on the BoB IronMan.  Just waiting for a good sale on it some where...

If you are only getting a BOB I would recommend the revolution over the ironman

  • @lest12 - I wouldn't trust the folks at BRU to be able to tell you much about anything sadly.  You can't put a baby directly in the seat of a jogger until they can sit.  I personally felt comfortable jogging with baby in the carseat (the BOB has an adapter for the carseat) from 6 weeks when I started back running.  I was on smooth pavement and certainly not setting speed records so baby wasn't bouncing any more than while walking.  I know others do the same but you have to decide what you are comfortable with.
  • Thanks @ncbelle!  I know BRU aren't the best person to ask but I don't know where else to get this kind of info without an pediatrician, that is!
