Variations of Diana

Diana was my grandma who passed last may. I love the meaning of the name and being able to honor someone who was such an important person in my life. My problem is, I can't imagine calling a daughter Diana. It's hard to explain.

Anyways, is there a legit variation that would be pronounced differently? BTN lists so many, but I wanted to see what you all thought. I would rather pronounce it dee-ah-na instead of die-an-ah.

For the record, I may just use it as a mn, but I'm curious if there's something I'm missing.

  • I think it's a lovely name and I would use it as a MN if I were you.  I'm of the "if it's not the actual name you're not actually honoring them" camp.

  • I wouldn't change it at all, otherwise the connection isn't there. Use it as a middle name, or if necessary to flow, as the first name but call her by her middle name. For some reason the first name that came to my mind was:

    Bailey Diana

    Bethany Diana

    Cecily Diana

  • The origin of the name is roman, Diana was a roman goddess. Originally, in rather ancient times, the name was actually Diviana (DEE-veeah-na). Not sure if that helps.

  • I tend to disagree and think that you can name a baby after someone without only using their exact name. I mean come on, if you were looking at a family tree and saw a Diana and then a Diane underneath it, it's pretty obvious, and besides, it's a matter of intention. Then again, in Jewish culture we only use the first initial so my middle name of Sara is after Sabine, which I've always known and felt as a connection.

Anyway. My grandmother was also Diana, though she went by Dolly her whole life! I think Diana is the most beautiful and classic version, anyway. I think there was a model on Celebrity Apprentice at one point called Dayana?
