Trying to Get Pregnant

New here, Need some advice

My husband and I are trying to have our second child we have been trying for 4 months this month we did as usually using a AF tracking app and a ovulation predictor. O on Dec 15 and was supposed to start on the 27th no AF and BFN on home test. Called my doctor but all they said was wait a few more days and test again, then either call them back or wait till next month and see if I miss it again. My period is usually very normal IDK what to do. Any suggestions I am going crazy and taking my husband with me LOL

Re: New here, Need some advice

  • The only thing I can suggest is to wait it out. Test once a week, use pink dye, first morning's urine & follow the instructions on your HPT closely.

Your period is always "regular" until it's not. Everyone has a wonky cycle. It's common. Good luck.

  • Welcome!  It sounds like you're using a period tracker, which is entirely useless unless it's taking your BBT into account.  Those trackers are based on an average CD14 ovulation, which is not true for every woman. If you can't turn a HPT right now, it's likely that you ovulated later than your usual.  The general rule of thumb is to keep taking tests once a week (or however often you like) until you either get a positive or hit CD60 with no period (which is when it's wise to contact your doctor).  Your cycle can vary at any time, for any reason.

If this isn't your month, I'd highly recommend tracking your BBT (which is the only true way to confirm ovulation yourself) and sign up for Fertility Friend.  And read the newbie blog (pinned at the top...there's a lot of good information there.  Good luck!

  • Is there really a big difference in pink dye vs blue or digital. With my first I didn't find out I was pregnant till I was almost 8 weeks because I was on BC. I just read that the test I have beeen using my not be as sensitive(blue dye also) as some others so I went to get another brand and it is a pink dye test. I plan to retest tomorrow morning. I guess I just feel like something is different this time.

Your doctor is wise. Don't call them back until you hit 60 days without your period or a BFP. Do as the others said above, read the newbie blog, delete your useless period tracker and ovulation predictor, sign up for Fertility Friend, start temping, and you'll be good to go

Yes there is. Blue dye tests are notorious for evaporation lines and aren't too conclusive. Pink dye tests are cheap enough to never touch a blue dye. Retest, if it's positive head straight to first tri- no need to update here. Good luck
  • Sorry I think I wasn't clear the ovulation predictor I am using is the clear blue easy one that you pee on every day. The app is My days and that just keeps track of when my period "should" be coming up. I have not started keeping track on body temos yet that was something we were considering if we didn't get prego this month

  • Those apps are crap. You cannot know you O'd for sure unless you temp/chart. As PP have said, the apps are based on a perfect 29 day cycle, leaving us non 29 day cycle women thinking our period is "late". My period was perfectly regular, until it wasn't. Just please read the newbie blog and start temping/charting. You can get really good information on how to do this VIA fertility friend tutorials which are free, or read Taking Charge of Your Fertility (my personal favorite). You will learn wonders about your body, and you will never ask these questions again. Good luck!

That clear blue ovulation kit is good to know when to have sex cause it tests for LH, which is released when your body gears up to ovulate. However if you gear up and don't ovulate, you're led to believe you're late when in fact you may have ovulated later. That's where temping comes in handy, cause you can confirm ovulation and know for sure when to expect AF.

My days sucks, fertility friend can confirm ovulation and use science to help you determine when to get AF- not a blanket textbook estimate. You'll be better off without it
  • Thanks for the great advice. I have read the "Newbie Blog" but it wasn't very helpful. I was just wondering if anyone had had a similar experience with being late and getting negative results and what the outcome was or if there was something else I could be doing  other than the regular call the doctor test again later ect ect. Like I said I missed all this with my first so I have no idea if I am one of those women who have 15 BNF before they finally get the + when they are 6+ weeks

Might want to give it another read.

  • Nope pretty sure I can read. I work for a Gyno and have had a baby before. I know all the regular stuff.  I was looking for actual experience from other people. But thanks.

You work for a gyno, but don't understand that temping is the only accurate way to pinpoint ovulation? Mmmmmmkay.

Why are people always convinced that having had a baby means you understand how your body works?  One venture into 1st Tri shows this to be false.

OP, by 'actual experience,' do you mean that you're looking for someone to confirm that you're pregnant despite a doctor's advice and a negative HPT?  PPs gave you great advice.  Just be patient.

ooh... see things were going so well until this.
  • So you're question is has anyone else been late getting AF? Um...yeah some of us are getting 40-something day cycles. If your tests are negative what is the confusion?????????????

FFS, you don't even know that you've ovulated yet. That doesn't make you late, it makes you impatient. That's not our problem. You're hoping to hear that one of us got BFNs for weeks and weeks and finally got a blood test or ultrasound that showed a growing baby inside. That's not realistic. There is such a small minority of the population that can't metabolize HCG in their urine, I don't think that's ever happened here.

Faulty blue line tests and Wondfos happen, testing too early happens, but we don't do "I Didn't Know I was Pregnant" here (unless you're FunniBunni, but she stopped testing entirely) We TOLD you to keep testing, I don't know what the hell else you want to hear. Sorry we aren't going to lie or blow smoke.

Seriously, please tell us. What answer would you be happy with?

15 weeks before I found out I was knocked up with my second. What now, fuckers? :)

Damn... Had you been testing that whole time??
  • @LindsRockies wow, what a story! I can understand why you would've not been testing. Your girls are beautiful!
