Trying to Get Pregnant

Ttc and heating pads

This may be a dumb question but ttc and heating pads? Ok? bad idea? I remember being told a long time ago something about really hot showers and such when ttc (or maybe it was just for the guys). My ENDO pain has doubled, probably since getting off bc. I hate taking meds if I really don't have to. I'm thinking a heating pad might help a tad. Just wanted to make sure this wasn't a no no before hand.

I'm 7dpo and last night I was miserable! I am usually pretty bad from the time I ovulate until af arrives but it's gotten worse since I got my IUD removed. I have a but of a cold and took musinex so couldn't even take Tylenol or anything to help so I just had to deal with it. The heating pad is calling my name!

Re: Ttc and heating pads

  • I am not sure about the technicalities but unless it is right after sex I don't see the huge issue.  I assume you mean just heat not icyhot pads etc.  I live cuddled with my hot water bottle.... and during that time of month have seriously thought about bringing it to work

  • What about in the tww? It would be like a rice bag type thing. Not electric or anything.

  • Why can't you take Tylenol?  You can take Tylenol while pregnant.

I would think the heating pad would be fine too.
  • @jcsumm0 The musinex box said I couldn't take Tylenol with it

Some musinex already has acetaminophen in it which is just Tylenol so you are already taking it.

    Fucking bump!!!!
  • @pintobean39 Ok yea didn't know that. My husband brought me the meds so I didn't see the box. Whatever was in it did nothing for my pain lol

  • Look on the box of mucinex and see how many mg of acetaminophen is in it. You may be able to take more depending on the dosage, it probably only has 250 mg in it which is 1 pill.
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • @pintobean39 good idea. I'm not sure how much is in it dh just said it said not to take any more. But I will look! I'm feeling ok pain wise today but at night it gets bad!

  • I'm a heating pad fiend. I've always used a rice bag while ttc and when I was pregnant with my son my dr. was fine with me using one right on my belly, so it should be fine. Good luck :)

  • Heating pad should be fine.  The whole "No hot showers" comes from the fact that you shouldn't elevate your body temp during pregnancy (so no hot tubs, saunas, hot yoga, etc).  Unless your shower (or bath) is hot tub hot I doubt you are going to elevate your body temp that much.  Oh and at 7 DPO you are not pregnant.

Also if I were in that much pain and couldn't take Tylenol, I would take ibuprofen even though I was in the 2WW.  That's just me though.

  • I wouldn't see why a heating pad during the 2ww would be an issue, especially at 7dpo.

Also- regular mucinex doesn't have any acetaminophen in it and it is not contraindicated to take together. The cold and flu mucinex has 650mg in a regular dosage (325mg = 1 regular strength Tylenol, not 250mg). So you could take more Tylenol on top of that. You can take up to 1000mg every 8hours. Just don't exceed 3grams in a 24 hour period.

  • Thanks everyone!!! I'm such a baby about mixing meds so when dh told me the box said no I didn't even look lol tonight I need something though. Taking the pain meds in the tww was not the issue. just was worried to do so with the other meds. Then of course the heating pad but I think your right, the tiny pad can't possibly raise my body temp that much. And like you said in only 7dpo. Guess I was concerned about farther down the line as well. Endo pains only get worse as the month goes on!

    Happy New Years ladies!

  • I use a heating pad daily on my back, and even if you are not pregnant, you have to watch the time you spend with it.  Having high temperatures on a part of your body for extended periods can affect that part of the body.

I dread when I am pregnant, because I'm going to limit myself to 15 to 20 minutes with the pad.  I do occasionally catch myself using it at work for over an hour.  So sad when I have to remove it. :(

  • I have endo as well. I asked my RE about using a heating pad during the 2ww and he said it was totally fine. Hope you're feeling better soon!
