Breast pumps through insurance

Has anyone used the following breast pumps? These are the ones that the recommended sites carry-

I'm getting Hygeia through insurance. It's the only FDA pump that is safe for sharing and you get a free LLL membership with purchase

Yup. I got this pump and really like it though I didn't use it a whole lot. I may get another with this baby since it's covered and just sell it.

I am going through a distributor-maybe it is a discontinued model? Madela advanced personal double electric breastpump. (It looks like an older version).

It's just nice that it doesn't go into the landfill when you are done. Can be sold or donated with a clear conscience.

I had the Ameda Purely Yours Ultra for DD and hated it.  It was loud and I didn't think it worked well.  I started pumping in the hospital with a hospital grade pump for 5 days and got used to that, so maybe that was part of the problem.  I used my Ameda for 2 days after getting home, then rented a hospital grade pump for the rest of the time I pumped.  I would not recommend it.  I'm going to try a Medela PISA this time.

I didn't even know breast pumps would cover insurance! Putting this on my list of things to figure out with insurance.

Have the Medela PISA and found it worked well for me.  Will be using it this time around again.

I am still figuring it out-but it is required according to the (affordable care act). My insurance have me two distributors and they have websites that list the pumps that are covered. They will contact your insurance company and doctor to confirm the pregnancy and then will send it to you (depending on insurance-has to be within 30 days of delivery). With all of the other expenses-we will definitely be taking advantage of this.

From what I understand, insurers now have to offer at least a manual or rental. Most find it cheaper to just give it to you out right. There are certain models you can choose from, and sometimes they don't send it until a week before your due date or even after your due date in some situations. I've been reading a lot about it.

I'm going with the medela because that is the most recommended by my friends and family who have little ones. Also, with DS I hacks hand held medela and ended up having to buy a bigger size flanges which will work with all medela pumps and those things are pricey for what they are!

I EP'd with a Madela PISA. I may rent a hospital grade pump for the first month this time just to see if there is a major difference. I'm just curious, not dissatisfied with the Madela.

@biglewzer, be careful!  The hospital grade one was AMAZING!  I was so spoiled I couldn't use anything else.

See, that's kinda what I'm intrigued about and what I'm also worried about. They're not cheap to rent every month, but if they're that far superior, I feel like I owe it to myself to give it a shot. And they're like $1,000 to buy. 

I'd still use my PISA when I travel (every week...sigh) and when i'm driving (judge away lol).

I rented from the hospital at $80/mo until I found an LC who rented for $45/mo.  Still cheaper than formula!  I loved that thing.  If I had the money upfront I would have just bought it.  And that's awesome you can drive and pump!  Might as well use the time.

I rented a hospital one and then bought a PISA. I didn't see a difference between the two, honestly. But, my boobs aren't great pumpers...

...I missed that info til after I had paid for our pump. Though I did tell SIL in time that insurance will most likely pay for your pump

Though knowing my stupid insurance that won't even cover baby well visits I doubt they would have bought me a pump anyway.

I used the Ameda Purely Yours and the Medela PISA. I liked the PISA better but the Ameda was smaller and easier to transport.

I love my ameda purely yours. I particularly liked that the milk never goes through the tubing. Edit - spelling! Ameda, not amoeba autocorrect!

Not sure which medela I have, but I did get it from insurance. It's a small double pump and it worked amazing!

My insurance said they would only cover it if baby had a medical issue that causes problems feeding (such as cleft lip/palate), and even then they would just cover a rental... when I read that it SHOULD be covered under ACA, I was excited... and I have decent insurance on a side note, I'm buying a hygeia, FTM here but the reviews are all positive.

Love my Ameda Purely Yours. It has the benefit of being a pump that others can re-use because no milk actually goes into the pump- just through the tubing which can all be replaced. It was a great pump for me. I think one of the most important things with breast pumps is to make sure your flanges fit correctly. I had to go to the smallest size. Others have to size up. The limerick pjs bliss is supposed to be quite a bit better than medela (which is supposed to be quite a bit better than the other two). The bliss works differently and has absolutely awesome reviews. I'm hoping that my insurance will cover that one, after reading about it and seeing videos and reviews. I have had two medela single electric pumps and didn't really care for them. they didn't work as well as I had hoped and didn't last very long either.
