Preseed- MC?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'm sure some of you have experience with this.  I've read that using preseed could increase your chances of having a MC or birth defects, does anyone have any experience with this or know this to be untrue?

TIA

Re: Preseed- MC?

  • No experience but doubt it. If it were true I doubt so many people would swear by it.

  • Since it's made specifically for conception I would highly doubt that. Where exactly did you read this, babygaga?

  • I've heard that too, but when I did more research it sounds more coincidental than anything else.

Umm what ??  It's a TTC safe lube, very highly unlikely, I would love to see your sources..
I forget where I saw it, I think it was another forum/reviews page of it and it was mentioned several times, which is why it made me think twice.

I was thinking this could be it too, but figured I would see if I got any more opinions here.
  • My thought is people may seem like they are reporting more miscarriages because of the lube, when in reality some couples choose to use because they are having some difficulties already on their own. So when it ends in miscarriage it may be a reason other than the preseed.

  • Ok, I got curious and googled. According to the reputable advice of babycenter.com message boards ::eyeroll:: it's because it helps more genetically weaker sperm get through.  This is just stupid reasoning.  First preseed would only affect the vaginal environment (and the impact is probably insignificant).  Even if it does hep more "genetically weaker" sperm get to the cervix, they still gave to make it through the cervix, through the uterus, into the Fallopian tube, and fertilize the egg.  That's a big task for that "genetically weaker" sperm.  This logic also assumes that genetic issues correlate to motility issues, which is not necessarily true.  Secondly, from what I have learned from IVF, most poor quality embryos are a result of chromosome issues and are usually an egg not a sperm issue.

Called it! Ok it was babycenter and not babygaga but close enough.

Even though I used Pre-seed and had a MC, I doubt it was related. 75% of first time pregnancies end in early MC, and that is the number that is of known pregnancies.

75% of first time pregnancies end in miscarriage? I would love to see where you got that statistic.

I think you are reading the stats wrong. 20% of pregnancies end in miscarriage, 75% of those miscarriages are considered chemical pregnancies.

Also, people lets use some logic here in regards to the original question.
CP is technically a MC. It's a pregnancy that failed.

Yes a CP is technically a MC. If you read, roughly 20% of all pregnancies end in a mc. Of that 20%, 75% are CP. That does not = 75% of all pregnancies end in mc. That = 75% of all miscarriages are due to CP.

    Yes, no shit.

The statistic is 75% of the 20% of pregnancies that end in miscarriage, are chemical pregnancies. Let me take this to your level...

If 100 people get pregnant, 20 of them will miscarry. Of those 20 people that miscarry, 15 of them will be from a chemical pregnancy.
    Exactly.

15-20% of recognized pregnancies will result in a MC, 75% are those of a CP.  I realize that I flipped that number around. Apologies.

Edit: Sorry, I didn't actually even mention the 15-20% part in my original point.
