My wife went for her first ultrasound today and twins are confirmed but there is a possibility that there is 2 yolks sharing the same sac? All I see is a faint line at the bottom of the sac which is the area the doctor is a bit concerned since the sac might divide? I think it's too early to know what exactly is going on. I know twins are risky and the good monitoring helps make it a success. I know ultrasounds show a lot of discrepancies which the doctor stated such as in this case it can be a shadow since it's too early to tell. So hopefully next Friday we have a clearer image of what is going on and if it is splitting we should know which twin is sharing what like placenta, nutrients etc. So now its a nervous time period until next Friday. Has anyone witness a similar case? Here is the photo the middle black sac lower right hand side is what dr. was cocerned about I see a faint line but thats it.
Re: Ultrasound shows 2 yolks 1 sac dividing?
3/22 ER: 25R, 20M, 15F. 9 genetically normal, and 3 survived to Day 5
3/27 ET: transferred 1 embryo, beta 9dp5dt=163, 12dp5dt=639
4/25 1st ultrasound at 7 weeks = identical twins with heartbeats?!!!
Do you havea picture? I am also a bit confused by the description. So was there two yolk sacs in the same chorionic sac? If so then the babes are probably mo/di or mo/mo but most likely mo/di and the membrane can't be visualized yet because she is still early. The best time to determine the type of twin pregnancy is around 9/10 weeks.
I am expecting mo/di twins. At our 9 week ultrasound you could see the very thin membrane seperating the babies.
Congratulations!

This is all just a guess at what your OB was explaining based off the info here. It's hard to hear things like "reason to be concerned", especially when there are a lot of unknowns and the news is as crazy unexpected as twins. Easier said than done, but try not to worry too much. There are lots of scary things that could happen...it doesn't mean they will. You and your wife are expecting now, that happiness is what matters for this moment.
