Whats going on here..

Into: Hello all - I have a beautiful 15 weeks old (today) baby girl! She was born at 39 weeks gestation. No reflux, no colic, good weight gain, exclusively breast fed (with use of nipple shield since day 2), I pump to store (over-producer), annnnd she has been sleeping through the night 11pm-5am from around 5 or 6 weeks of age I know - I am incredibly blessed!

Our sleep got all sorts of messed about beginning about 2 weeks ago (Wonder Weeks App said she was in a leap). Great, so that passed, and in the past week she has been trying to get back to herself with 7-8-9 and even one TEN hour straight run through the night! :0 whoa! And then suddenly last night, fed at 9:30pm - awake for feed at 1:30am - awake for feed at 5:30am - and again at 8:30am..

It's not so much that we had a "bad" night, or an unusual night for us.. but shes acting different today Maybe a bit overtired for one thing.. and then also shes not nursing for as long at the breast! Her last feed was at 11:30am and she literally was only on there for like 7 to 10 minutes.. before PUSHING me away and arching her back! I deduced that she was too tired, and rocked her to sleep. Shes still down for that same nap.. I have NEVER been pushed away by her before.. also she should have been hungry? It had been three hours since she last nursed and it's been three hours now since our last short disaster Whats up with this? Why would she push me away? Could she seriously have been full? Not hungry? Super tired from being up at night? Ugh I'm so confused She doesn't seem sick - she's smiling and playing. Been a bit unsettled this whole nap time .. but not terribly off.. I'd say she started super drooling on everything about 4 weeks back and chewing on sophie the giraffe with new found vigor.. but I dont see a tooth and wouldn't that be very early anyway? I'm so sad I put her to breast she she just arches and starts crying shes such a happy baby this is SO not like her

It could be teething. Our daughters sound similar-mine also eats and sleeps extremely well. I feel so lucky. My daughter started teething around 3 months and had two teeth by 6 months. I also exclusively breastfeed and she would do the same thing-try to nurse then push me away. I read that the pressure from sucking can be a bit painful when they are teething. My poor girl would go in cycles where her eating and sleeping were off from the norm, and all her other teething symptoms would be worse during this time. This went on for two months before the teeth showed up. If she is eating (albeit not her normal amount) and she seems fine otherwise I would give her a few days and see how she is. Of course, you know your baby best and if a call to the pediatrician seems in order then do it! Good luck!

ps-my baby also went from 20+ minutes on each breast down to 5-7 minutes! They get more efficient as they get better at sucking!

She's almost 4 months old, this all sounds very normal for a 4 month old - sorry.  PP are right, sleep and eating will constantly change and you're gonna have bad nights here and there and then you'll have a new "normal". You get used to that and then they change it up again.  A

My advice is stop overanalyzing what's going on right now and just roll with the punches. My baby had a rough week of nursing much like you describe when he was 4 months old - ish too. There will be growth spurts and teething all sorts of things.... 

Babies also get super efficient after 4 months. At least in my experience. My 6m old is so damn efficient I'm always worrying he doesn't eat enough but he's happy and healthy and thriving. If she is pushing away your boob and crying- she's done eating! 

If your baby is happy when awake and has good diaper output, is gaining weight, meeting milestones etc... then don't worry about how many times and how long she is nursing for. It was such a shock for me too how short our nursing sessions are now. I kinda miss those 30 minutes of quiet and cuddling....long gone are those days though!

I have a good sleeper too. For the most part he sleeps 6 hours straight then nurses. If we have a unusual night where he's up more I just assume he's growing and needs a bit more milk. After a few days he gets back on track.

Teething can be a long process - just because you can't see it yet doesn't mean it's not a possibility.

And I seriously wouldn't worry about one 'off' day and night. Babies schedules are going to change.

Agreed. If there's one constant w children it's that they're unpredictable.

Roll w the punches and go by her cues. Just bc she's been easy up until now doesn't mean she'll be easy from here on out.

Sounds like you have had an easy time for the most part.... as soon as you think you have your LO figured out, they change. Like other PP's said, if you feel like something is wrong, call your pedi.
