So LO was DX with an ear infection last Monday and given Amox.

Shes doing much better. Cough has improved a lot - as has the running nose. However after 24 hours of meds she had three great nights of sleep - followed by three horendous nights. Last night she would only sleep if I held her..... she is cutting a tooth - but my pedi was pretty clear that it was her ears keeping her up and not her teeth.

What do you think? Is there a chance the meds aren't working?? She has already had 7 days worth.... What's throwing me however is that she had those three good nights and now they have been bad again.

It could be her teeth, ears, or both. I know that teething can cause ear infections or so I'm told. I know D started on amoxicillin and his cough and nose improved, however, when he was rechecked two weeks later and the ear infection was still there. He ended up on omnicef and we saw improvement again. However, ten days later when rechecked he still had an ear infection and was put on augmentin (spelling). This antibiotic cleared it. My point is it might not be a strong enough antibiotic and her ears could still be bothering her. Do you go back for a recheck? I hope she is feeling better and sleeps well for you tonight.

At 7 days, she should definitely be improving.  I would call the Dr. and ask to speak to a nurse.  Maybe they'll have you come in for an ear check.  Like @pinkmickey24 said, we went through the exact same 3 meds until augmentin finally cleared DS's ears.  I hope she's feeling better soon!  I'd defintely call today before the holiday.

I called - we're going in at 3:45 for a re-check. UGH. Not what I want to deal with today - but given the past three nights of no sleep - it's definitely worth it.

If they still look bad, the appt will be so worth it!!  We are on infection 3 since 11/11   Let us know how it goes!

We've been through 5 antibiotics and are on round two of cycling through them again for ear infections until the ENT appointment next week (come on tubes!!). For H, he usually feels better after the first dose and it doesn't bother him any longer. The times he's had teeth coming through at the same time is when sleep is usually down the drain.

Hope the appointment goes well this afternoon, we're heading to one too!

@jbdamonm how is she? We're on day 6 of amoxicillin over here and Molly is still the screamiest baby on the block. :-/ ear infections are the worst! Hope LO is feeling better!!
