Am I crazy?

So my husband and I go to my Mom #2s house for a Christmas party tonight with a bunch of people who are just now finding out I'm 13 weeks pregnant. This one guy who I haven't seen in years shows up (who no one talks to and we have no idea how he even knew there was a get together)... Mom tells him all excited that I'm pregnant just like she has to everyone else who showed up. His very first response was "What?! The dogs weren't enough?!" (My husband and I have two labs who are 5 and 6 years old along with a 9 year old cat.) I am sitting in the living room which is just off the kitchen that he's in saying all this loud and clear. Am I absolutely crazy for wanting to start screaming at him? I mean, I'm not asking him to raise our child, support our child or even meet our child. Who the hell is he to determine if I'm ready to have this baby because we have two dogs. Totally spoiled my whole night. No matter how I tried to not let him get to me---it did. I held it all in, didn't say hi or goodbye to him or his girlfriend who laughed and agreed with him. Ugh!! Some people actually want to grow up, get married, buy a house and start a family---WITH DOGS!! Am I crazy or would this upset you too?

Re: Am I crazy?

  • That wouldn't upset me. Read the crazy comments thread if you want done truly nutso things people say.

Maybe you're having a bad hormonal kind of day? I'm about a far as you are and have been sensitive lately.

  • I would have just assumed it was sarcasm and not cared.
  • Yeah, I vote that he was probably sarcastic or kidding and it just didn't sound like it to preggo ears... Because otherwise he sounds like a dumb ass. Sounds like a good thing to laugh off.

  • It sucks how little things like that stick with you sometimes, right? But try not to worry about it. It was either sarcasm or he's an ass... Either way it's none of his business, and it's not like your close to him so who cares what he thinks. I'm used to people around me saying shit like that. So try to just brush it off ;) keeping a hard shell will make life easier on ya
  • My own brother in law said- point blank when asked- that he wasn't excited for our baby. He said this at my home when I had made dinner for him and two friends. This falls into the same category. It's so completely rude, but some people are just horrible that way.
  • Sounds like he was making a joke. I'm glad you held your initial feelings in because I think you would have regretted it later.
