Success after IF

IVF/PGD Seattle

We are with Dr Letterie at SRM.   Any experiences?  I do not have any known fertility issues but am a carrier of an X-Link defect is my reason for PDG.

Would love to hear from you!

Re: IVF/PGD Seattle

  • I did IVF at SR.M. with Dr. Dud.ley. I really liked working with him. You will work with a number of Dr.'s there since it is such a large practice. My egg retrieval and embryo transfer were all done by a different doc who was on duty for those procedures that day. It has a reputation as a "baby factory", but I am a happy customer as I was successful on my first try. I did not do any PGD, though.

  • This is who we used for our ivf/pgd cycle. We had a very good experience with our interactions with all staff. You do have different doctors doing your procedures, but that wasn't a problem for us.

When doing PGD, the lab and embryologist makes more of a difference than your specific doctor, and SRM does have an excellent lab, which is one of the reasons we traveled there after much research.

We did have a few hiccups coordinating the probe building with reprogenetics in the beginning, which was frustrating, but we were able to sort it out.

Let me know if you have specific questions.

  • Thanks Amanda and so glad to hear of your success!  :)

I didnt know I would get an embryologist too!  I imagine there are a lot of moving parts.

We will be doing just gender selection without the probe and single gene detection I learned today from him, so that is exciting!  I read somewhere the probes are not only extra $$ but can take up to 20 weeks to create?   I am hoping that we dont need to go that route.

I am 39 (40 in June) and know so little about the chances, we are so hopeful of course.

Iris, How did you end up with TWINS? :)  What are the chances, when did you know?

It took about 8 weeks to develop our probe. Prices are based on complexity of testing for the disease so it's not necessarily more expensive. You'll have a biopsy fee you will pay to srm and then a testing fee you will pay to reprogenetics. If you have a recessive x-linked disorder, i suppose you could only transfer female embryos, and some could just be carriers rather than being affected. I guess you wouldn't need to test for the specific single gene defect and develop a probe then.

Once you know your FSH, AMH, and follicle count numbers, you'll have a ballpark idea at your odds of success, but PGD is such a numbers game since you cant use all of your embryos. there's so much luck involved too.

I discovered the odds of identical twins after IVF average 1.5 percent - a little higher for donor eggs and really young patients. So it's rare! We learned at our first ultrasound at 7 weeks, which was a huge shock. :)

  • Yes, just what you said!  Got a call today suggesting only a female transfer. That to me is good news! We were hoping for a girl anyway. My now13 year old son was born affected, after 2 bone marrow transplants he is now ok but nothing we want to do again. Numbers, luck... It's scary. I've been on depo for menstral migraines for a year. He wants me to do that first blood test mid January, am hoping numbers bounce back.  Did you do Attain?
  • I just saw your PM, so I responded to you there.

  • (Lurking from PAIF) I also did PGD with IVF for a single gene defect. Feel free to PM me for more info if it would be helpful. If you don't build a probe and you choose to only select females, this means that you are comfortable having daughters who are carriers like yourself. Using a probe allowed for us to cut the gene out of our family line altogether. There are lots of routes to go, as female selection was an option for us as well. Anyway, feel free to PM me if you want to consult with another Seattle doctor. I can highly recommend our clinic as well!

Freeze-All IVF#2: May 2013 ER 5/15. 31R, 21M, 20F. 6 5AA frozen blasts. Our PGD probe was completed in late June (total of 20 weeks to develop). PGD and PGS Results came on 6/19: 3 healthy embryos (normal chromosomes and unaffected by my family's genetic disorder). FET #1: July 2013 Natural Cycle - Cancelled due to insufficient lining (only got to 7.5mm). FET #1.2: August 2013 - Medicated Cycle with Lupron & Estrogen Patches to build up lining. Single embryo transfer was 8/23. Beta #1: 240! Beta #2: 578! U/S on 9/19 at 6w4d: We saw the heart beating at 131bpm. Second U/S on 10/4 at 8w5d: We saw the heart beating at 178bpm. EDD 5/11/2014

    PAIF/SAIF/Everyone Welcome!

  • Great thank you! We have carefully considered and are doing a female transfer. I was a the point of switching clinics today after some frustrating emails to and from the SRM finance department, but they have since redeemed themselves. I was also given a tentative date of 4/13/14 to start which is exciting but also feels like forever away! Was also informed that it will be a 5 day FET. IS that the only way with PGD? Must be. Are the success rates different with FEM vs FET. IM CATCHING ON TO THESE ACRONYMS! any feedback is helpful. I'm a carrier for Wiskott Aldrich, rare enough that I thought I would mention I case there are any others out there. Thanks!
