High bp

Just seen obgyn today been having high bp. Was on medication for it before pregnancy but have been fine up until now. They put me on methyldopa 250mg twice a day. Have to go back in a week. Anyone else having issues like this? My lbp was 140/102 today.

Re: High bp

  • I did the urine thing a couple weeks ago. I'm guessing it was fine. They didn't really say. Good luck.
  • I have had high BP with all 3 of my pregnancies. On meds for this one and the last one. Not a big deal really but they keep a check on it. Might be a good idea to start your own log of daily BP checks just to give doc an idea of how you do everyday. They will keep a check for signs of protein in your urine which could be a signal for preeclampsia. Don't stress too much (it will only raise BP higher) just follow he doctors orders :)

  • I had somewhat high bp #s early in pregnancy, but they've come down to an ok level now (prehypertensive and not actually hypertensive).  I still take my bp every day and report it at my appointments.

Rachel, I think it's probably good that they went ahead and put you on meds, since your diastolic was at 102 and you have a history of needing meds for it.  I know I would breathe easier, just knowing they are being proactive and addressing the situation right away.  Are they having you take it at home and call your numbers in, too?

    Hope everyone does well!
  • Yes I have to keep a log of my bps now and go back in 6 days with the list. Very glad we are being proactive just hope the meds keep it down. Thanks ladies.
  • mine was up a miniscule amount and my MW suggested cod liver oil capsules.  i don't usually have high bp, but i do have high anxiety, and i was a bit more anxious when it came time for her to take my bp the other day for some reason.
hoping the cod liver oil helps prevent it from raising any more!

  • I actually have hypotension, but I also have white coat syndrome, an anxiety disorder, ADHD and sensory processing disorder... Doctor visits cause me chest pain and anxiety attacks, so fun! Lol. My bp can be fine (I stay at about 95 over 60) and at the docs it'll be high (last appt it was 140 something over 98!!) ugh. Hospitals freak me out since my mom died and I can't for the life of my get past it... I can't take my ADHD meds or my anxiety meds because I'm pregnant, sooooo... I get to be crazy, lol. ;)

This is me exactly. My BP is always high in office (150/90!)and never at home (usually around 100s/60s at home). I keep a log and bring it in every appt. My docs know it's just white coat anxiety but they wouldn't be doing their job if they didn't worry about it. :)

  • My BP was high in my early 20s and I was on medication. I lost about 25lbs and was eating better etc and it was normal for several years. It was normal up until 20weeks and it jumped to 150/90. I started taking 100mg of Labetalol twice a day and it's been perfect since then. I check it on my own at least twice a day and have been avoiding sodium.

I was scared of taking medication but baby girl is growing as she should and is healthy and that's what matters. I've had several appointments with a MFM to rule out any kidney issues that would cause the high BP and so far so good. I'm waiting on results from a 24 hour urine regarding a very rare but possible adrenal gland tumor (fingers crossed everyone!) and I should have those today or Monday.

It can be scary for sure but with maintainence you and your baby will be perfectly fine :)

  • I"m on meds for my BP, as I was on them before I got pregnant.  I got high BP with my son and was induced at 39w 4 d.  My OB isn't concerned as long as we maintain control via meds with my BP and keep a close eye on it.  She told me traditionally, BP goes up the further into our pregnancies we get.
