Pregnant after IF

Visiting from IF - IUI questions

Hi everyone!  My husband and I have been TTC for 18 months.  I was diagnosed with Stage 2 endo 2 months ago and had lap at that time.  We are set to start our first medicated IUI cycle in a couple of days.  I was wondering if anyone was in a somewhat similar situation how many cycles it took for you to conceive, and if you had any advice.  Hopefully, the Clomid won't cause me to be too emotional during the holidays since I tend to lean that way anyway. I am very excited to have a plan, but really nervous about getting my hopes up.  Thanks!

Re: Visiting from IF - IUI questions

  • We did five IUIs (with one miscarriage), IVF and FET but we have different diagnosis then you so its always hard to compare. Just know many many people get PG with IUIs but it might take two or three. Good luck.

  • I thought that was weird too. Maybe she meant to post it on another board? Your response was nice, so I don't think it could have been anything you said!

    Me: 42. DH: 46.

  • I apologize for deleting of the original question.  My username had more personal information in it that I realized, and I couldn't figure out a way to change it.  I had to email bump to get it to be changed so that I could still use the discussion boards as a way to get support.  I am really nervous/excited about starting the IUIs.

I was looking for honest answers because I am really worried about getting my hopes up after trying for so long, and I appreciate your feedback.  The original (or close to it) is back up now.

    Congrats to you both!

  • I am a 2IF grad and fellow endo sufferer (stage 4) and am now 35 weeks pregnant with our second little girl! Our IF journey is in my siggy, but it took us 2 IUI's with our RE (and injectables) to achieve this pg. Reliable info is often hard to find on the success rates as there are so many factors and everyone responds to treatments differently, but they say first time IUI's are often not as successful as repeat attempts so don't be discouraged if it doesn't work the first time....I know easier said than done!

Best of luck to you and hopefully you will be posting on this board for good in the near future!

It took us 2 1/2 years to conceive this time around. I did Clomid on its own for a few cycles, then moved onto a combination of IUI with injectables and Clomid. We were going to stop after IUI #2 was unsuccessful, but our RE recommended one more try because my numbers were where he wanted them and I was finally ovulating. I'm now 17 weeks along w/DS #2. Third time was a charm for us. I have PCOS, so a different diagnosis. Good luck to you! It can definitely be stressful, but there are a lot of great ladies on these boards (there are boards for IF and secondary IF). I definitely suggest getting to know the ladies over there. Also finding a doctor (RE) that you trust is really important too!
  • We did four IUIs. The first and second were BFPs (m/c and CP). The third and fourth were BFNs, which ultimately pushed us to do IVF, and our first IVF led to DS. Clomid made me HULKSMASH angry at the drop of a hat, but aside from that it wasn't too bad.

I hope you are successful quickly!

  • Good luck OP! You should ask your RE what chances he gives you. For IUIs alone it was pretty low, but increased a bit with clomid and then again with injectibles. The biggest chance we had at any given time was about 20% chance of success, which is about what a non-IF couple has. So if you take that into consideration, it could take a few months to get pregnant still. Hope you get lucky off the first go-round!
