Toddlers: 24 Months+

My 2 YO used to be so independent and now WILL NOT leave my side!

My LO just turned 2 last week. From the time he was a few months old, hes been sleeping through the night, taking a nap anywhere he needed to, happy with anyone, went straight to be with no fight only to wake up 12 hours later. Suddenly about 3 weeks ago, he started screaming in the middle of the night and wanting to come in bed with me. I let him and since then, its happened every single night. If I try to put him down in his bed, he will scream until I lay with him until he falls asleep only to wake up a few hours later. When a babysitter or DH put him down, he goes down MUCH easier, but still wakes up in the middle of the night. I am fine with him cosleeping but DH thinks its problematic. Same goes with naps-if I put him down, no go...anyone else, fine. He will not eat anything (but junk) when Im around. When its DH or babysitter, he inhales his food. Its getting ridiculous to the point he will just scream until I pick him up and hold him-wont settle for anyone else. This is NOT like him. One side note, Im 8 months pregnant with our 2nd...I dont know if he senses a big change or? Has anyone else gone through this? Is it just a phase or should I be doing something to help??

Could he have an ear infection? Has he had a cold? Or are his 2 year molars coming in? It sounds like he is being woken up at night because something is bothering him or he is in pain. The clinginess to you could be from exhaustion.

  • Those are all really good thoughts. He has just been so irritable lately in general, like hes in pain. Sometimes when he wakes up it sounds like hes had a bad dream or yeah, is in pain. Other times its more whiney. I hadnt thought about the 2 year molars but thats a really good idea.
