December 2011 Moms

The clock must stop!

I just blinked and DS' Birthday is Monday already!  NOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!

I have no idea what to do/plan for him.  DH has the "big wigs" coming in for the week at work so he's not going to be able to do anything so it makes for a bigger challenge since DS isn't exactly "Chucky Cheeses" age yet...

  • I know the feeling! DS's birthday is Monday as well. Last year we had a party with the extended family and a bunch of our friends, but this year no one is able to travel to us so I'm making him his favorite dinner. We'll do presents, cake, and balloons as well. My mom, sister, and some friends who have an 18 month old will be joining us.

I feel a little bad because we're not doing an actual party, but as my DH pointed out, at 2 years old DS is not really going to know the difference or care :-)

  • @arnold94: Yeah, my being 35 weeks pregnant also played a role in how elaborate DS's birthday plans are. I just don't have the energy to entertain a bunch of people!

Don't feel bad. When DD1 turned 2 it was just the 3 of us. We had cake and ice cream and presents. That was it. It was a week before DD2 was born and I just didn't feel like doing anything else. At the time, she was really excited about the cake. And now she doesn't remember and it doesn't matter. This year we had a really small combined party for both of them (DD2 turned 2 on the 4th). It was just some close friends and their kids and my mom. The girls had a blast. I don't think big, elaborate parties are necessary at this age.

Edit - How do I update my ticker? I have tried twice. My girls are 4 and 2; not 3 and 1!

  • My SIL is insistent that we do a party for EVERY birthday for the kids since they never had them as kids..  Ugh!  I never had one until I turned 13 and it was the "era of sleepovers" for birthdays..  I'm happy just to do something with the four of us to mark the day and call it done!  DD has gotten used to the SIL's plan of having a party every year which complicates things.  Thankfully she and DS are 20 days apart for their b-days, but I'm not exactly Suzie Homemaker and so finding a place to go that everyone can enjoy is a bit of a challenge...
