My daughter isn't overly attached to hers. We only give it for sleep and when she's really upset. We bring it with us while we are out, as the whole stranger anxiety is huge right now and having it when she decides it's a 'no one can look at me today' kind of day it helps!
I make a point of not letting her have it while playing and such at home as she really doesn't need it then.
Just figure out what you want and keep that in mind now. If you want it gone completely by a year then start limiting it. If you are fine with baby having it until 18m-2yrs in the crib only start to work towards that by not having it in the mouth 24/7.
I have no problem with them having it as a sleep aid until about 18months, but won't play the throw the soother out of crib so mommy comes game. I do want her to still have it as a soothing mechanism because I will be opening a home daycare in about a month and there will be big changes for her and we'll have more kids here and less mommy time so if she needs that to cope through the busy days and big changes in the beginning I am fine with that.
Good question, my lo is hooked to it but it's so easy just to put it in his mouth when he gets upset--this needs to stop! We use it a lot during sleep.
Re: Passie weaning?
It's really a parental preference kind of thing.
