Ultrasound freak out?

I just went in for my first ultrasound today (I'm 7 weeks) and seeing the baby on the screen was amazing, but then I heard the heart beat and I thought I was going to burst into tears - but somehow managed to keep it together. This was not a planned pregnancy so I wasn't mentally prepared - I didn't even realize the baby would have a heartbeat at this point... So my mind is blown...and I'm not sure how to cope now?
Does anyone have any good recommendations for books written by reasonable specialists as a first introduction/primer? Preferably I would like to read a book by someone who is not going to tell me to stop eating practically everything tasty and that I can't exercise besides "brisk walking" (which is what my doctor said)
As someone who runs marathons and plays team sports regularly, brisk walking for 9 months is going to drive me mental!!

Re: Ultrasound freak out?

  • I have the Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy (https://www.amazon.com/Mayo-Clinic-Guide-Healthy-Pregnancy/dp/1561487171) - less chatty than What to Expect When You are Expecting.  Definitely encourages women to eat healthy (gives a simple list of what to avoid) and keep exercising.

  • If you maintained a regular work out routine before pregnancy you may continue that routine as long as it isn't "extreme". Even running is fine. Glad that your ultrasound went well!

  • Definitely continue to run and do all you did before, but be mindful. I had a good friend that continued with strength training and I've continued to run. Just pay attention to what you're body is telling you and definitely be prepared for your times to slow down. My min/mile was never great, but it's just plain embarrassing now. lol

  • Hi everyone, I didn't notice that I had received replies - something is off with my notification settings. Many thanks for the recommendations!! I am a natural worrier and these books sound great for helping me to calm down! :) Have a Merry Christmas!
