Babies: 3 - 6 Months

when is it a good time to start giving cereal?

My baby is 4 months today. She only drinks formula. And I'm wondering when every one else started giving their babies cereal.....and her two bottom tooth are growing in already.

  • We will be skipping cereal. I just don't see the benefit of it.
  • Everyone has strong opinions on this.  Really it's up to you and your Pedi.  They say 4-6 mo. to start depending on the child's ques.  You may read current studies that say wait to 6 mo.  Honestly, my first would not have held out that long.  She was ready to eat at 4 mo.  Showed all the signs, and did very well.  I never did much cereal.  I agree it doesn't have nutritional value.  Helps in texture, that's all....   Avoid cereal in the bottle if you can.  Really no point unless there is an issue like reflux etc....    In my opinion, if your LO is growing teeth and showing interest.... take it slow and try it.

She wouldn't need to scroll through a zillion posts....I'm sure there is one on this page since it seems to be the most popular/most controversial post on this board (or so it seems). So yes...REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Maybe you didn't have time to read all the comments on this post where I posted a link from the FIRST page with the exact same topic.

    ETA: clarity

While I don't disagree with any of you...my point is that we don't need to be rude, we just need to point out that the topic has been discussed already, MANY times, and suggest the OP scroll a bit or post a link like one of you did.  Some people are new here and don't realize it. I find the topics overwhelming, and you don't always know what is discussed just by the one line header. If you don't check in frequently enough you can miss it. I know it's been discussed a lot and is completely controversial but some people just don't know that :)
