Wine?

Re: Wine?

  • I was so pleased to see this discussion (I hadn't seen it on the board before) because I think this is something people can be incredibly judgmental about (and I've gotten comments on).

My OB said two small glasses of wine a week is fine after the first trimester. I've been defining small as half a glass, or about 3 ounces, mostly just because I feel guilty sitting down with a full one. (I've thought a lot about why that is, when I trust my doctor...I think for me it's because with pregnancy, there is so much that is out of my control, it's easy to feel guilty about the things that are, like what I eat or drink). I feel perfectly comfortable with this definition/amount, and have had at least a half a glass a week since the second trimester.

Anyway, it's just nice to see discussion on this topic. I think it's a personal call a woman should make on the advise of her doctor, not at the pressure or judgment of others, and it's still shocking to me how alarmist and intrusive people can be about this.

    Wine for everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!

    AND DORITOS

...hmmm. What wine pairs well with Doritos?
My college experience tells me anything that comes in a double bottle and costs less than $9. Sutter Home should do juuuuuust fine.

I am actually going to get all sophisticated and say a Gewurztraminer.  Lots of good acid to balance the cheese, and strong mineral notes and a touch of floral to balance the spices.

I disagree. Gewürztraminer would get run over by the cheesy goodness. You need a solid red. Perhaps a cab or Pinot noir?

I'm thinking the type of wine depends on the flavor of doritos.  like... cooler ranch i might pair with a pinot grigio, where as a spicy nacho i would pair with a red... perhaps a cabernet?

I wholly agree with this reasoning... Cool Ranch definitely screams CHILLED WHITE to me!

Vegetables have not been proven safe. I'm sticking to Doritos.
Yeah, that makes sense, because vegetables have been linked to known birth defects and life-long health problems. You make a seriously valid point. Thanks for sharing your "knowledge" and shedding some light on such a serious topic.
Dollface, your "knowledge" has no more scientific studies backing it than mine. Like I've had to throw out here twice already, the studies to back up either claim can't happen in our country or most countries of advanced medicine because of the ethics involved in exposing subjects who are unwilling to consent. Your point is moot.

  • I'm on the moderation is key ( in everything in life all the time anyway) so I've had small glasses ocasionally once they sounded good. Weirdly(and sadly) some wine does not taste right anymore! All I taste is alcohol sometime or they are just, off. My husbands and my fave drinks don't seem to smell good sometimes but wish I could have a manhattan or gin martini especially on a stressful day. "Sigh" I'll stick with a sip if wine to make sure I like it (not wasting a glass on my strange new taste buds.)
  • Btw, now I have to go back to the grocery store, since yesterday all I got was lays BBQ.... "Sigh" lol

I agree with everything you say, but, to be specific, I believe one full "serving" of wine is 4oz. We in America just have no concept of serving sizes haha.
