Anyone planning to have a glass of wine once they get into 2nd trimester?

I swore I'd allow myself a glass once we were there, but now I'm getting a little nervous. But, god, it would be amazing.

Anyone else?

  • Me (if I feel like it). European side of family would disown me.

  • A little glass of Red wine here and there won't hurt a bit. It is actually beneficial as it lowers BP and contains antioxidants. I'm 13 wks and planning to have a small glass this week as we celebrate our wedding anniversary. Alcohol is bad if consumed constantly in large quantities. A glass of wine or champagne here and there enjoyed with food and water won't hurt. And just listen to your body, if it tastes "funky" it's your body's way of telling you to hold off :)
  • I may or may not have a glass here or there. I've been doing pretty well w/o it so far and I'm one of those who once I start it can be hard for me to stop.

I'm not wine-phobic for pregnancy at all: I think the hairspray I inhale is probably more of a concern. I suppose I'm just nervous because it's been a no-no since our positive test result. Twice I've had the teeniest sip of my hsuband's -- just enough to taste, not really anything to swallow. But, yeah, I'm ready for a glass to celebrate the second trimester and holidays.

To be clear, I'm not huffing hairspray. You know, just morning styling.

haha I've been holding my breath and spraying as quickly as possible.

  • I LOVE WINE but I'm holding off till after. This is my third and I held off with my first two with no problem. I do hear a glass here or there isn't bad but for me it's just like giving up my soda during pregnancy. Like PP said if you taste good to you then have a glass if it doesn't it is your body's way of saying no.

  • Ha ha I hold my breath too when I use hair spray lol. I think these days they make you so paranoid about so many things. When in doubt I always think that people have been having perfectly healthy children for centuries before prenatals, when drinking wine and eating sandwich meat was not dangerous etc so I try not to worry too much anymore. I did freak out about everything I did or didn't do the first few weeks I was preggo! It's much less stressful not to worry as much lol
  • I probably will have a small glass Xmas and new years eve. I had a drink here and there with DD in the third tri. I usually would fill a glass about a third of the way with wine and then the rear with sprite. It was usually when DH and I were enjoying our porch swing.

My mom had red wine with all of us to help with her blood pressure.

  • Also my mom pointed out that a little glass gets into a very large amount of your blood so by the time it's mixed in there the trace that MAY reach baby is just that - a trace so really no worries on occasional glass here and there! For alcohol to have a negative affect it would need to be a constant high dose in your bloodstream. I think they say its a no no because some people may start with one glass and say "if I have one I can have two, if I have 2 maybe I can have 3..." And then it becomes bad.
  • You better believe I'll be having a glass of wine over the holidays!

  • I plan to have a few sips here and there, but maybe not an entire glass. I miss my wine...I always love a good glass of wine paired well with a nice dinner. It's also making me sad to see my husband enjoying all our favorite Christmas and winter beers...

I confess I snuck a sip of my uncle's homemade wine last week while we were at the dinner after viewing hours for my grandmother.  He gave my sister a glass and she wasn't drinking it.  It was just sitting there.  It would have been cruel not to have a sip!  I'm not against a glass of wine from time to time in the second and third trimesters.

Luckily, I'm not a beer drinker, so that's how we work it out: he doesn't drink wine in front of me but can have all the beer he likes.

  • Everything in moderation.  I'm not going to go drink half a bottle, but a glass with Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner?  Absolutely.

I had a quarter of a glass (like 4 sips) of red wine at our anniversary dinner on Friday.  And sushi.  It was the best night ever.

  • I will definitely have a few sips here and there, especially at Christmas.  We went out to dinner last night with some friends of ours and they ordered a bottle for the table.  I sniffed my hubby's glass for like ten minutes.  It smelled amazing, but I want to wait another couple weeks until I am firmly into second tri.

  • I don't think there is anything wrong with it, I just don't know if I'll be able to bring myself to do it.  I can see myself having a sip here or there if DH has a glass, but I think I'll feel so guilty, I won't be able to enjoy it.

I don't even miss wine at this point.  I want a martini!

  • Nope, I'm one of those crazy fanatics who thinks you never know just how much you can have before doing any harm.  It actually sounds disgusting to me right now, but after my MS subsides I might feel different.  I think I really craved Reisling for a while during my last PG...

  • I always kind of thought I would, but I was at a wedding this weekend and had zero desire to even sip the champagne during the toast, no matter how many times people at my table said it would be perfectly fine.  I guess I'd just rather err on the side of safe.  (As I totally licked my fingers while making cookie dough yesterday, oh well, what are you going to do :P)

  • I'm not opposed to habing a glass, but when I am pregnant my body says, "YUCK!"
    imageimage
  • No absolutely not.
  • I would if I wanted it, but I haven't been craving it. I love wine, but right now anything dry is just on my "stay away from me" list.

I have been craving bloody marys (which I think is weird). We went out to breakfast a few weeks ago and I ordered one virgin, I was craving so badly. It was so yummy and refreshing, just thinking about it is making my mouth water right now.
  • I'm already have little glasses here and there (by little, I mean a half inch in the bottom of a juice glass).  It's amazing!!  If I feel ok, I drink a little more. When I'm pregnant, I still love the taste, but my stomach starts complaining much sooner.  That said, I was 8 months pregnant at my SIL's wedding shower last time, and they had mimosas, and I was sooooo excited because I love those, and they did me a "favor" and made me with no booze.  I was devastated but didn't say anything because they thought they were being so sweet.  I mentioned it to my mom, she made me mimosas at my baby shower the week after :).  To each their own, a little here and there never hurt any of the babies in my family.

  • I will not ba having any until after. My Dr does not recommend it neither does my mother who is a Midwife.

According to Mayo Clinic, American Academy of Pediatrics & many other studies: There is NO amount if alcohol that's known to be safe to consume during pregnancy. If you drink, you place your baby at risk for fetal alcohol syndrome!

  • I already have had a few sips here and there too. Mostly asking DH for a taste of his at dinner sometimes. Not sure if I'll pour myself a whole glass anytime soon, but I'll definitely sip here and there. Maybe a 1/2 glass on Christmas Eve. By 3rd tri I'll probably be a little more relaxed. I'll never forget my first full beer after DS was born. Had to time it right between nursing but it was ahmazing!

Oh my gosh I cannot believe how many of you are okay with drinking poison while pregnant?! After such a thread on marijuana, and literally everyone agreeing that it was bad, with it's very little *actual* known side affects, and all of you people are totally okay taking a drink of something that is *proven* to cause problems.

This entire alcohol driven society we live in is so fucked. You all should be ashamed of yourselves. I'm appalled.
Yeah.  I'm pretty sure if you eat/drink enough of anything it can be considered poison.  Look at half the meds some of us are taking, take enough of them and they turn deadly.  It's not proven to do anything.  It's also not proven to not do anything.  There aren't studies.  Unless you'd be okay with joining one.  Feel like drinking x drinks a day/week to see how your baby turns out so there can be studies done?  No?  That's why we don't know enough.

ETA:  Also, HERE is a link that's interesting.
Son: Jackson, 11/02/06, stillborn due to PPROM and IUGR. Over the next ten years we had 9 miscarriages from 8-14 weeks. On May 18, 2016 my daughter, Ridley, was born. We're OADNBC.
  • No, I'm too paranoid. If something is wrong I will swear I did it.
  • Personally, I don't drink a lot even when I'm not pregnant, so it isn't hard for me to skip out on wine.  If DH has a glass of wine, I may take a sip, but that's it.

When I was pregnant with DS, DH and I took a trip to Spain.  Everyone there told me I SHOULD be drinking about 1/4 glass of wine 3-4 times a week.  OBs there "prescribe" it to pregnant women. Apparently, it's good for your blood and baby's blood.

At the same time, everyone in Spain freaked out when the saw me eating chocolate (it's not like I was devouring mass quantities...I'd occasionally have one of those small Dove promises).  I'd just say, "You drink your wine, I'll eat my chocolate."  ;)
