MSPI Moms - reintroducing dairy

My son is only 7.5 months, but I've been reintroducing dairy into my diet little by little.  Ex: I will eat a regular chocolate chip cookie or two, or I'll eat at a restaurant and not request butter be left off... My son has been doing great with this and has had no extra gas or other noticeable symptoms.  Previously even that small amount would've made him miserable.  I've also tried sour cream twice now (a tiny amount) and he didn't have any noticeable effects from that either.

How do you know how much dairy to reintroduce at a time?  I want to take it slowly but I just don't know how to take it from here - do I try some soft cheese?  (Oh to have pizza again!) Just looking for other people's experiences!  I know they don't usually completely outgrow the dairy thing until around a year or so.

Re: MSPI Moms - reintroducing dairy

  • I introduced diary directly to DD so as not to taint my milk.  I started with things with dairy baked into them like bread.  Once I knew she was good with that I went to dairy that was cooked ( I read that when you cook dairy it helps to break down some of the protein) so she got cooked ravioli and pizza.  Once she was good with that I gave her yogurt and uncooked cheese.  Once she was good with that I went to milk and ice cream.  She outgrew her allergy at about 10.5 months.  Good luck!

  • I just tried some things and went from there.  I can't remember what I tried first.  Yogurt is generally a good thing to start with.  And typically they will be able to tolerate dairy in your milk before they can tolerate it directly.  By 1 I was eating some dairy but E didn't really have any until more like 15-16 months.
  • I did it step wise with one thing at a time for a week or two.  At 9 months I re-introduced dairy back into my diet.  I started with baked dairy and watched LO.  When she seemed fine I did yogurt/cheese and finally milk.  Once I knew she handled dairy in BM my pedi had me offer baked dairy.  LO tolerated it well so we then introduced yogurt and finally cheese.  By 12 months she handled all of these things and my pedi said that she had outgrown MSPI.
