Is your FIL typically this big of an asshole? If this is out character for him (and BILs) to do something so cruel, then I would be able to get past it and chalk it up to being a poorly thought out prank. If this is par for the course, I would be more inclined to take an indefinite break from being around them.

My husband shot a dear the night before season opened. He thought it was that afternoon but they told him it was the next so they were poking fun at him. The duck thing is dad thinks he shoots a ton of ducks. My dh always hits his limit first and is an amazing shot. He breathes hunting. His dad and brothers knows it. His fam usually isn't a bunch if assholes but it went too far. They joke about who shot what and who's lied about what they killed. You know, make macho stuff but he's never done anything like this to them. Sil says the guys didn't know about it till 2 days ago that dad did it. I know it was 4 days and just Wednesday they were at ds bday party. wtf ever. I know dh is livid and hurts.

The "funny" thing is sil was like- he should be honored dad picked him to continue a tradition since his grandpa did it to his dad. And dad picked dh out of the 3 boys and one day dh would do it to ds" um fuck no he wouldn't that's so shitty. Dh does brag about his shots and stuff with them but the guys all do it

He's home. Not saying much. You can tell he's sad. Poor dh. His dad texted him and asked it he wanted to go duck hunting tomorrow. Dh said he had to work but really doesn't. I don't think dh wants to go off on him. This all coupled with some news dh told me about his childhood just makes this week shit. I'll update later after we talk. Dh is in the bath now.
