lingering cough

Recommendations for the never-ending cough besides the traditional elevated pillows, steam in the bathroom, etc. Not sure if there is any natural cough medicine out there for 2 y.o's or other ideas.

Re: lingering cough

  • We have a humidifier with a medicine cup and we pour a few drops of vicks vaposteam in there at bedtime and naptime. It really seems to make a difference.

  • We use Zarbees cough medicine. It's all natural and there are daytime and nighttime versions. The nighttime has a low dose of melatonin in it and it helps my son get comfortable enough to get to sleep when he's coughing.
  • Honey - studied to be as effective as dextromathorpen - just a small spoon taken straight.
And time.  The average cough takes something like 6 weeks to completely dissipate - and that assumes you don't get anything else in the mean time!
