DH and I don't really agree on girl names....when I think we finally do, he changes his mind. The current name we agree on is Selene/Celine. He likes this name better than Serena, Selena, or any other name that ends in -a. Thoughts on the name? Which spelling do you prefer?

Re: Selene or Celine

  • I know the traditional Greek pronunciation is Seh-lee-nee but in North America it would more often than not be pronounced just like Celine. I love the moon connection and I am just not sure I get that as much when spelled Celine.

  • Having had no idea that Selene and Celine are supposed to be pronounced differently, I picked Selene. I think it's prettier and thought it fit more with the Selena/Serena thing you seem to be going for.

  • I think Celine rings more french, and Selene reads more latin-American/Hispanic, if that matters to you. You might want the one that goes with your background?
  • I like the Celine spelling better, but I don't think I could use it. Just the sight of it brings to mind the Titanic song and I cringe. So if I were to ever consider the name I'd go with Selene.
