Recommendations for indoor activities

Hi Moms! My son is 7 months old, and my nanny and I are looking for suggestions/recommendations for activities to do with him when we're stuck indoors due to rain and/or cold weather (i.e., when our fall-back of a nice long walk in the stroller isn't the best idea!). He's at the age where he loves to play and be engaged, but he also seems to get bored very quickly so we can go through most of his books, games, and music in a short period of time. I've signed him up for a music class, and am looking into activities at the library, but would appreciate any ideas for things we can do - both inside and outside our home! Thank you!

Re: Recommendations for indoor activities

  • We can burn a good 40min with bath time.  I top up the water to keep it warm and she plays happily.

Jolly jumper. I rotate it between rooms to switch up the scenery.

I keep a handful of toys in various rooms and we just rotate through.  Sit and play with some toys here, then different toys over there.  It switches things up to keep us both entertained.

Our music class gave me a bunch of ideas for fun action songs which she loves.  I tend to do these when she is bored and getting fussy.  A couple action songs cheer her up then back to playing.

If I am cooking or cleaning I often pop her in her highchair with toys and wheel her around with me.  She enjoys this as she is near me, up high and I can talk to her.

  • Like pp mentioned, switching rooms/toys is key for us! I have a basket of different toys/things to do in the rooms we spend the most time in. Ill switch out toys for other toys that I keep in the closet--kind of a toy rotation so he doesn't get bored as quickly. We do a lot of made up games, too, but for us, a change of scenery always piques his interest and re-engages him:)
  • My 7 month old loves different sized boxes! He can play with them for over an hour at a time. I have to be right there the entire time in case he almost flips over though. Good luck!
  • My 8 month old loves to look at herself in the mirror, and she loves music... so I'll play a kids music cd and hold her in front of the dresser's vanity, and we bounce and 'dance' together while she watches us.  It feels kind of silly, but it works.  Also, the jumper is a godsend.
