My husband and I are expecting our first in April 2014 - Our families are far away (cross country & international), my OBGYN hasn't been overly warm or helpful so far, and we are the first of our friends to have kids - so in short we feel like we need some extra support and are considering having a doula during labor.
I know to check certification with DONA, but if anyone has individuals or agencies they recommend in NYC (delivering at NYU) it would be MUCH MUCH appreciated! Thanks so much in advance!
I haven't used her as a doula, but took her childbirth classes, and really liked Lisa Taylor. She also works as a doula, and has lots of contacts in that world.
They also have a sliding scale starting at $400 and up. There's a "meet and greet" event that's held at Yummy Mummy on the UES and Beth Israel, too. You have a chance to meet multiple doulas in one evening.
We interviewed 4 doulas before choosing Mavis Green who was also our childbirth ed instructor. I also really like the owner of Birthing Gently who was responsive to my emails when I inquired about services, fees, etc.
