Losing the bottle!

The boys are officially on whole milk bottles (4) with three meals and 1-2 snacks/ day. They take water from straw cups with all meals/snacks and after bottles. They've used a straw cup since 9ish months and do really well with it. We need to start the transition away from bottles and I'm at a bit of a loss. One mistake we made from day one was warming bottles. Because they were low birth weight, we had to do whatever we could to get food in them and they were notorious bottle fighters. We caved to warming and they now fight cold milk. They are interested in taking it from a sippy cup, but only for the novelty- not really to satisfy. I also offer water at meals and milk in between, but I'm assuming I need to switch this up, right?

Would you guys mind to share some tips on losing the bottles? Also, could you share your schedule of milk and how you work it with meals? And, do you use different types of cups for water and milk? They've never had juice, so water and milk are the only drinks they get.

TIA!

ETA: They are taking in 16-20 oz of milk right now.

  • We just.now got her off the bottle, but I think they are still warming her sippies of milk at school. We switched to the avent sippy with the soft spout bc it's more bottle like. It's the only thing she will take milk out of other than a bottle. We use straw cups and regular sippies for water and she does fine with those.

We give 3 4 oz sippies of milk, and she nurses twice a day still morning and night. Sippies are at 9, 12, and 3, and she gets water with her meals.
TTC with PCOS since November 2009

I am about to cave and get one of those nuk bottle like sippy cups for milk. How is that really different though? I am really on the fence about this. In any case, I experiment with the mid day milk- switching it from bottle to sippy, and the result is that bottle has been dropped. dS only takes milk from the sippy in very small quantity.

I still give him milk in the bottle upon waking and before bed.

as for warmed milk vs cold- DS got room temp formula and rejected cold milk at first. So I did room temp milk for morning and night and got him used to cold milk in his mid day bottle. It didn't take long to get him acclimatized. Maybe try room temp first and then move to cold?
