chiropractors adjusting babies

I met a woman today that doesn't vaccinate her child and takes him to a chiropractor to get adjusted. Whaaat??? Chiropractic adjustments on a baby?!! I've never heard of such a thing... Have you? Would you do this? She claims that it prevents him from getting ear infections and boosts his immune system (since he's not vaccinated) and helps him walk better. Thoughts?

There are multiple reasons a baby would be adjusted by a chiropractor. We did take DD once because it was supposed to align her to help her eat and sleep better. For us it didn't work. I don't think I would take a baby there again, but there are many people who swear by them. 

The adjustments are also different. They have special tools and different ways of working with infants.

Wow. I'd never heard of such a thing. Why wouldn't you do it again? Was it scary? Did it hurt?

My husband is a Dr he would never let me bring our baby to a chiropractor for that reason.

My DS started getting adjustments shortly after his first birthday to help with chronic ear infections.  I was skeptical, but it was a complete success.  We were able to avoid surgery for ear tubes and he has had only one ear infection in nearly two years.

And as PP said, the adjustments they perform on babies are drastically different than what they do for adults.

Ok maybe I read this wrong .... She's doing the adjustments for ear infections not instead of vaccinations.

Oh yeah I'd consider it for chronic ear infections or something like that. My husband has even suggested a few times for some of my muscle problems I see a chiropractor. He says it really works for some people and if you are one of the lucky ones then so be it.

DH has a coworker that sounds exactly like this. They posted a video of the first appointment of Facebook. I haven't researched this, but it looked totally crazy cakes to see that little guy getting flipped around.

My dad is a chiropractor and he adjusted my daughter when she was 7 days old. Their bodies go through a lot of stress actually being born and she just had a little spot in her neck that he found needing tweaking. It is NOTHING like an adult adjustment because babies bones have not grown together. I would recommend it to everyone. I was also adjusted during my pregnancy and after I gave birth (and man did that baby wack my tailbone out!). Just pick someone you trust. Seeing as my chiropractor is my dad, that went without saying.

As long as the parents know that there is absolutely no proven benefit and they are ok with paying for no actual benefit but real risk ... Wait a minute....

Chiro has been shown in some studies to help mechanical low back pain in adults. The end. Infant's bones haven't fully calcified and so are so soft. This scares me to no end.

Many of the disorders that chiro, etc claim to "cure" are ones that children will grow out of.

As far as no vaccines, I don't want to deal with that, but her kids wouldn't be playing with my kids.

@tomw&jennd - i said tge same thing. She said since my kid is vaccinated he is protected and SHE should be worried about her unvaccinated kid. But don't kids HAVE to have vaccines to go to school? Isnt she just putting off the inevitable?

My sister takes her youngest to a chiropractor and started at around 3 months old. My niece has horrible colic, and digestion issues causing her sleep problems. My sister said the chiropractor gave her a new baby! A friend of mine just have birth and had a chiropractor come to the hospital to adjust their baby. It's important if you go that route to find someone that knows how to adjust an infant.

As for doing it because you don't vaccinate... Um, I guess that's her choice. Not my style.

I see a chiropractor regularly & if I get adjusted right when I'm getting sick it helps. I plan on taking this baby to see my chiropractor too.

I work for a chiropractor and took my baby for an adjustment at 2 weeks old.
Whenever he's not sleeping well at night, or has an ear infection. He also had a misalignment in his sacrum which would likely have caused him to have incontinence when he got older. I'm glad someone took care of it. I would trust my chiropractors with my life.
Don't be so quick to judge!
