Talk to Me about JCP Portraits

This will be a P&R as I'm on my lunch break.

I want to get Christmas pics of DD for cards and to send to family.

Does anyone have experience with JCP Portrait studios? Good? Bad? Indifferent?

What about cost wise?

My friend told me to stay away from another big name place because of cost, so I'm trying to check JCP out now.

TIA

I will love tit you all later ;)

I got a groupon for $25 and I got some great pix. I ended up paying an additional $75 for the CD with the digital pix on it that wasn't covered by the groupon.

I just got a coupon in the mail to do it again and I'm thinking about it (times arent good for the coupon).

  • We use JCP portraits :) a lot! We are going in to do our family Christmas pictures for cards on Saturday. It is $9/per person sitting fee and I want to say it is 44¢ per Christmas card. I say look for deals because you can almost always get the sitting fees waived. We also get all sorts of coupons for being loyal customers. We went every 3 mo for the first year plus Christmas and a cousins shoot.

It is $9 per sheet so 1-8x10 or 2-5x7s etc unless you get a portrait package. The disc is expensive like $200 unless you go at the right time and they are having an $80/disc deal.

It is a little spend but we look for deals and budget for it because pro pictures are important to us.

  • We use them for all our portraits. We have done other studios in the past and I feel like JCP has better quality portraits, plus they're cheap. We usually get sheets for $4, so we can walk out of there with pictures for everyone in the family for less than $30.

We did have a bad experience once. A's 2nd birthday pics were just horrible. The photographer was annoyed at me because I couldn't "make him sit still and smile". He picked up on her attitude and wasn't at all cooperative, and the pictures were terrible quality. However, I complained and they called me and told me I could come back with another more experienced photographer for free. We got some great pics on the reshoot and a bunch of free prints, so I ended up happy overall.

  • You cannot beat them for a studio for the price, especially with a coupon.  They normally have great Christmas card deals and we have done them for several years.  We also do yearly "school photos" done there for my SD and SS.  With that being said, we do our non-holiday family pictures with a local professional photographer and they are night and day difference in quality.  But for the money and convenience for Christmas cards, JC Penney is great.

  • We have used them twice now and I really like them. The photographers were really good with DS. Usually they have a lot of good deals/coupons on their website.

We use JCP.  Here they only have one photographer with child experience and we did not get her for DS's 1 year pictures so they were a little crappy.  We just had family pictures taken and 2 were ok.  They are not great, but they are better than I can take and infinitely cheaper than a solo photographer.  We bought a $30 membership and it gives you a few free sheets of pictures and waves the sitting fee for unlimited people for 2 years.

FYI, there is a 20 shot limit at my store and it's a real pain in the ass to go over.  My child hates smiling on cue so to get him to smile in a few different poses in under 20 frames is tough.  We end up buying the first two or so pictures anyways because he quits smiling. This last time we only took 10 shots because he was done sitting still.

  • We have used them in the past. I wont use them again. The last couple of times the photographer made us use really strange posing. Not natural looking or feeling at all and you could tell we felt awkward in the pictures. They also ran almost an hour late and then rushed our shoot. We purchased the CD the last time because we needed some kind of picture since it was supposed to be for our Save the Date cards. But all of them were pretty bad and we couldn't decide on just one picture in the store.

  • We've used Penny's A LOT and have only had one or two experiences where it didn't go well. The price/quality is great and usually our photographers are spot on... even during ages where the kids would just NOT cooperate!
