December 2010 Moms

Help me brainstorm an excuse

I'm only 4 weeks along with #2, and I'm not inspired to tell my family yet, not even mom.  It feels too early.  Segue to some super awesome jeans that my mom was wearing last weekend.  I ooed and aahed about them.  Mom called this morning and offered to buy me a pair (presumably for an early xmas present, which we tend to do).  Is there any way to tactfully extricate myself?   There's no point to buying ANY clothes, let alone "expensive" ones, that aren't going to fit me in the near future, and possibly not after baby either.  I may be brain dead today, because I can't think of a single excuse that would fly to get out of this.  Any ideas?  (I sort of feel stupid even posting this, but there's no one else to help me)

  • Maybe tell her you're trying to get pregnant instead of already pregnant. Or get a gift receipt and return them!

these are both good ideas. or you could tell her you just bought yourself two new pair and that getting one more is just excessive.
  • I would tell her that you're trying to lose a few pounds (unless you are super skinny already) and you don't want to buy new clothes yet. Or tell her you actually tried some on and they didn't look great on you.

As a side note, I'm totally impressed that your mom was wearing jeans that you wanted. What brand were they? I can't imagine being remotely interested in wearing any piece of clothing that my mother wears. She must be cool :)

I'm not usually interested in her clothes either, so your note made me chuckle. They were Not Your Daughter's Jeans or something like that. They were very slimming, in more of a trouser cut, and they come in talls (squeeeee!). I could totally use a pair of dressy jeans that magically shrink my a$$, but not for another year, ya know?

    Thanks for the ideas ladies!

Ooh, that's the brand Jilly was talking about a while back. I'll have to check those out sometime. Or buy some for my mom.
