Nuvaring users

At my 6 week pp appointment. I was prescribed the Nuvaring as a temporary form of bc until I can get the Mirena IUD. It has been a little over a week and I think I'm starting to feel some really shitty side effects. My emotions are all out of whack, I feel sad and irritable. This didn't happen on the pill, so I didn't think I was one to be sensitive to hormonal bc. Have any other Nuvaring users experienced mood swings/emotional changes? I'm trying to decide if it really is the hormones or if my mind is playing tricks on me.

Re: Nuvaring users

  • Also, I've noticed a huge decrease in my sex drive and loss of sensation down below while DTD. I think I'm ready to ditch this thing and go back to condoms.

  • No personal experience, but my good friend got one and was really messed up from it. Sex was painful and she had no desire. She actually thought her fiancé would leave her because she was such a depressed, crazy person on it.

I know BC effects vary from person to person, but her experience sounds very similar to hers.

She now has the Paraguard and loves it.

  • Yikes. I was really hoping this would work out since it's pretty convenient and I hate the idea of a pill every day. I don't plan on TTC for at least 2 years so I don't feel comfortable not being on any type of bc but I hope to have better luck with the IUD.

  • I had it a few years ago and loved it, but I guess it's different for everyone!

FS (age 5) and FD (age 2) to become AS/AD very soon!

  • I had been on the ring for years and loved it and never had any problems. The only reason I won't be using now is because I'm bf'ing
  • I just started it as well. I was emotional for the first week and although that has gotten better, I do have a lack of sex drive. I hope it gets better. I'm still undecided about Mirena. We aren't planning on having another but I don't want to make it definite for around 5 years at least.
  • I had it before DS and loved it. I can't get it now because I don't have a cycle but I would use it again.

  • The first time I used it, I had issues like what you're describing. I went back on the pill, then gave it another go a year later and had no issues. I would go back to it in a heartbeat if I wasn't bf-ing

This.  I wish I could be on the Ring now...I miss it.  I can't because I am BFing though.

  • I was on it and loved it as well.. I had friends on it and they didn't have side effects from it just other issues like it would fall out
  • It killed my sex drive as well when I used it.

  • I was on it for almost 10 years and loved it. I had side effects for the first few months and then never again. I miss it so. Stupid pill...
  • I had it, loved it!

Funny story: husband (boyfriend at the time. Well, not even that. Fuck buddy? Anyway) was "exploring" down there and I neglected to tell him I had one. He felt it and freaked out! He made up some excuse about having to feed his dog and left.

He finally confessed later he thought he was feeling a tampon. He had no idea why anything would be up there.

A few times it would come out around him like a ring toss. Haha.

I would use it again in a heartbeat.
  • Had it and loved it! No issues! The only birth control I didn't bleed on. Wish I could use it now!!

  • I tried it for a few months years ago. It gave me horrible headaches and crazy emotions and killed my sex drive. It was literally night and day when I took it out. I am on mirena and have no issues ( had it for 2 years before DS too)
