WTF Tigers: An ALCS 2013 Story

Game 1 was good.  Anibal Sanchez was on the mound and pitched a beauty.  He was all...
image

I had been drinking and was all...
image

Then there was game 2.  We had an amazing 6th inning where we scored 4 runs and we were up 5-0.  I was all...
image

And then Max Scherzer was pulled in favor of our bullpen.
image

Two pitchers later they put in our "closer" Joaquin Benoit.  We're still up 5-1.  But that's when I said...
image

Benoit walks the bases loaded and that's when this guy walks to the plate...
image

When one of the greatest postseason clutch hitters comes to the plate with bases loaded, you should probably pitch outside.  Fuck it, walk him and get the next guy out.  Just don't let him beat you....................

Benoit serves up a meatball that Ortiz gladly let's fly into the Boston night. I knew it was over.  It didn't matter that we were still tied.  They won with a walk off in the 9th and that was that.

But hey, we're back in Detroit for Game 3.  Time to shake that off and get momentum back on our side.  We have Verlander on the mound and he's been a beast.
image

And he did!!  He pitched a great game, only allowing one earned run.  A homer from that bearded goon Mike Napoli.
image
I fucking hate you and your stupid beard.

Meanwhile, our bats go silent against Jon Lester.  So I sit there for 9 innings waiting for something to happen.
image
It never does.  Red Sox take Game 3.

But today's a new day and I am going to Game 4 of the ALCS!  Although, historically, I am bad luck when it comes to Tigers playoff games.  But not today!

Eat em up Tigers!

  • Could be worse... you could be a Cubs fan...I should know.
  • Loading the player...
  • Great story!

-My son was born in April 2012. He pretty much rules.
  • @Coltsdad...Remember when this happened?
    image

Because I don't.  105 years with no championships...that is fucked up.

  • I'm sorry @Coltsdad.  I can't imagine what it would be like to be a Cubs fan.  The closest thing to that for me is the Lions.

  • So Game 4 happened last night and I was in attendance.  Doug Fister was on the mound (don't worry, I'm not putting any fisting GIF's in here) and he had a great outing.
    image

Meanwhile the Detroit bats finally woke up from their game 3 slumber and decided to crap all over Jake Peavy.

    image
It's ok Jake, I would chug jager too if I allowed 7 earned runs in a crucial game of the playoffs.

Jim "Mumbles" Leyland FINALLY moved the batting order around, moving Austin Jackson from lead off to the 8th slot.  And what happened?  He goes 2-3 with 2 RBI's and a stolen base.

    And speaking of stolen bases...
    image
Peavy (probably after his 5th swig of jager) allows Miguel Cabrera (who can't even walk right now due to hip and leg issues) leisurely jog over to 2nd.

The Tigers carried a 7-1 lead into the 9th when Leyland called upon the new Human Heart Attack Machine aka Joaquin Benoit to close it out.

    image
He promptly gives up a double and a triple.  If this had been a one run game, well that's a blown save.  Luckily for ol Joaquin, we were still up in the game by four runs and he finished off the Red Sox to tie the series up at 2-2.

    Game 5 is today.

  • Sounds like every single semi-pro team from Cleveland.  No wonder they will not give Columbus a professional team.

  • Game 5......

  • And then there was Game 6...

    image

Shitty bullpen and a batting order where only half the players remember it's the post season.

So the Tigers lose again.  We had a great season but it's a tough pill to swallow when your expectations are a championship.  I think I need to lower those to keep my sanity.

Reports are stating Jim Leyland is stepping down as manager today.  This should be an interesting off season.

The great thing about sports is there's always next season. I recommend getting on the Chief's wagon while there's still room.
Sorry, I'm chained to the Lions wagon.  I try to jump off multiple times every season but it just drags me along.

That's a familiar feeling... Go Browns!

  • @Prime, I have been making fun of the Browns ever since I moved to Columbus in 1978.  What is worse is that I live and work in the Akron area.
