Michigan Midwives?

Any one able to recommend Michigan Midwives, I'm in the Fenton Area. We may be moving into Holly or further south along I75 by the end of pregnancy. How much was your prenatal care and delivery? Were you able to have a 16 wk scan and get everything checked out?

Re: Michigan Midwives?

  • We used the nurse midwives at the U of M and they were amazing. They only do hospital births though. They were very supportive of low intervention, no pain meds, laboring in the tub, etc. My care throughout was awesome. I had one ultrasound at 18weeks. The only other intervention I had was a nonstress test at 39 weeks because they couldn't find baby's heart beat with the monitor. They were very supportive of allowing labor to occur naturally with no induction interventions. They encouraged the use of doulas, and laboring at home as long as possible. My labor at the U women's hospital was awesome. I had one cervical check upon arrival and no other checks. I labored in the tub, and then gave birth in the bed. I didn't have an IV or even a heplock. They just checked baby's heart rate with a portable machine so I didn't have to be hooked up to a continuously monitoring machine. If you're looking for a homebirth, they wouldn't be able to help you, but if you're ok with a hospital birth I'd highly recommend them!

  • Oh, and because they are UM hospital affiliated my insurance picked up the tab for all prenatal care and delivery.

  • I think Ann Arbor is a bit too far away for us. Anyone know of anything closer?

No experience with her but my friend had info on Facebook about the site. Might be worth seeing if she has suggestions.
