"Womanizing Men"

Ryeben Studdard will be on The Biggest Loser this season. People magazine did a promo for the show where they showed one of the trainers talking to him about his copious amounts of back hair, which he refers to as "taco meat."

Yeah, barf.

Anyway, I did found one comment he made interesting, which was something to the affect of, "Society tries to make men less masculine. You womanize men." I think what he is saying is along the lines of the same thing that women say, about how they shouldn't be forced to shave, wax, etc.

I know in religious circles, there is a big movement of not trying to feminize men. And I know a lot of women feel pressured to conform to a certain appearance (don't look at me-I wear makeup twice a year, but still....)

What do you guys think about this? Are we expecting men to not look (and act) like men anymore? I'm talking in generals, here, knowing full well that some men are way into personal grooming and certain stereotypical female activities, while others are total brutes.

Clearly I am bored on a Monday....

I think the dude used the wrong word to describe what he was talking about, lol.  But I also think he's incorrect for the most part.  There is a relatively small group of men who could fall under "metrosexual," but they are pretty far from changing the tides of manliness.

For the most part I think the only thing anyone expects from a man is for him to be clean, dress in appropriate clothing, and to keep basic manners (particularly in public).  Honestly, there's a far greater push for women to be perfect and shiny and hairless than there is for men.  Men get Movember, do women get an official "grow out your body hair" month?  This guy kind of has no idea what he's talking about.

  • I like a man that is not hairy! My mom says it is a generational thing but by these responses she is CLEARLY wrong! Facial hair gives me the heebie jeebies.

  • I personally like hair...lol. I mean ya I don't want it to be a amazon down there but you know. As far as pedicures and such I do them for him. I like to say he keeps up with his appearance :)

Yeah I guess I see the waxed, primped men like I do the Playboy models.  Nice in theory but just strange in practice.
    Yup.

Also, I do like a man with a little scruff. Except thank you Chinese genes, the best my H can achieve is a "soft-stache" à la 13-year old. lol
