vaccines....vent

i am so so so so SO sick of people insinuating that I am "wrong" or poisoning my son by vaccinating him and getting the flu shot.  Even "he was a preemie" doesn't get them off my back.  How do you handle this??

I'd say, "Until you've seen your child on oxygen for weeks, struggle to simply breathe and turn blue multiple times a day, you have no right to provide medical opinions based on your experience with a full-term, healthy child. Oh, and your decisions are making it MORE likely that both of our children will end up back in the hospital. So, thanks for that."

Clearly, I'm pro-vaccine (not wanting to start an argument, but that would be my response)

Wow. You shouldn't have to defend your decision to vaccinate whether your child was born healthy and term or sick and premature. Those people need to mind their own business. I am pro vaccine and believe in our case the benefits outweigh the risks. It's medically recommended, enough said.

People keep saying that there is mercury and anti freeze and all this other stuff in it and that I'm going to make him sicker in the long run... which I do not believe. I've tried the whole "Thank you for your input but we have made our decisions" and they just basically say that I am wrong (it isn't just me, they post stuff on their pages all the time about how vaccines are poison)

I have told the one girl that I will not allow my son to play with her daughter.... who was a preemie and has not had any vaccines. It is her choice and that is fine but I'm not putting my son at risk!

Who are these people? I thought it was still the norm to vaccinate. I wouldn't allow DD around unvaccinated kids either. I think that's a greater risk than not vaccinating.

Wow, I can't believe there are so many ignorant people out there who love to force their opinion on you. The probability is that these same adults were vaccinated in their childhood and now that they have been healthy all of their lives and haven't had small pox, it's taboo to vaccinate your child?!!! Ughh sorry it gets me so angry! Do what you need to do to keep your child safe and you better equip yourself with some snappy remarks (at least that's what I would be doing)!

Funny part is that some of these people are educated... None of them are doctors. One told me to take my son to the chiro instead of getting ear tubes. Are you kidding me? Yes many people jump to take medications too quickly but I don't give my son anything unless I have to and I look into it first!

I apparently have a lot of opinionated friends and family members. And I blame a lot of it on FB because people think they can say anything on there

Opinions are like a-holes, everybody has one.

And it really irks me when people try to push theirs on me. I love an educated coversation but can't stand most people's bs.

I had the same thing happen about a circumcision. It didn't go well. I pretty much told them, thank you for your input however he's my son and the decision has been made. Unfortunately I still feel a little friction between us and they're family. It sucks!!!

My sister in law is anti vax and I'm worried about the baby being around her child. Ugh! I haven't talked to her about it only because it can only upset me.

We vaccinate. If someone doesn't want to vaccinate their child, that's their choice as a parent. But I want them no where near my child or in daycare/school with them to get my child sick.

I am very pro-vax, for full term babies as well as preemies. I do not usually engage in the back and forth, because you can't argue with stupid, but if anyone ever tried to make me feel bad for vaccinating my child, I would have no problem telling them off, letting them know that they are contributing to the recent outbreaks of preventable diseases and would probably sever the relationship.

I tell people I prefer to put my trust in scientific, peer-reviewed, proven facts rather than pseudo-science and fear-mongerers.

I tell them I do my own research and  rather than trust blogs.

I tell them I'm not willing to let my children become some of the thousands of people who die every year from the flu.

And then I tell my husband our friends are idiots.

I dont really know how they dont vaccinate, unless they home school, vaccination records are required for the schools around here. Personally, even if I felt I had a choice I would still vaccinate. I've seen first hand how sick los can get even with vaccines so I can't fathom risking the severity of it without vaccines.

I've taken DD to the chiropractor, but he's a good friend of ours and I trust him. I wouldn't have done it if she'd been on oxygen though, but I do think it helped with some minor issues. All he did was hold her and make a slight adjustment - I couldn't even tell he did it, it was so minor. For the OP - tell them it's none of their business. My best friend didn't vaccinate her children, but it's never been an issue because I respect her parenting decisions and she respects that I choose to vaccinate.

I don't understand people who choose to not vaccinate.  Another thing I don't understand is why you don't vaccinate against the flu, but fully vaccinate everything else.  If you vaccinate, why wouldn't you vaccinate against the flu? 

And it kills me when people talk about how they "did their own research" and it was all on these fear-monger websites (that just spew non-facts) and completely misinterpret everything in the medical literature.  Ask other professionals who have doctorates or masters (doctors, pharmacists, nurse practioners, PAs) and read what groups of professionals also put out as the evidence-based medicine guidelines.  Don't read one sentence in a package insert and say that getting the flu shot will kill you. 

I'm sorry that you have to deal with these people.  I would just hide all their posts to avoid seeing them on FB about that.  And, you are way better than me, because I would tell them to you-know-what, and it would probably end the relationship.

today this person told me that she will not get the flu shot because of the mercury.  I reminded her kindly that she smokes and that cigarettes contain mercury. to which she blew up on me. 

I love when people can dish it out but cannot accept anything else. 

+ASH+ don't you worry about being around the kids that are unvaccinated though?
