Ugh, strangers

DD and I run into kohls quickly. She decides to scream pretty much the entire time. I'm checking out within 5-10 min and I'm almost done when a woman comes up and reaches for her hand. I tell her to not touch her hand and she proceeds to tell me it sounds like she is hungry. Really?!? When did you become and expert on my child? She isn't hungry, I just fed her, she is tired. Either way, you touching her isn't going to solve her problem so back the f away. I normally wear her in stores but thought since it would be quick I didn't want to take her out of the car seat. I won't make that mistake again.

  • You should have asked the lady to whip her nip out if she knew what your LO needed.

Yikes! I would have not be so nice to her.
It came to mind just a little too late but thought the same thing. The teenage boy at the register would have died, haha.

  • I hate it when strangers touch my children. I had a woman try to cover up a foot once, so I boxed her out real quick. I don't need your germy hands on my preemies.

  • I freaked when mil kissed Savannah's head while I was wearing her yesterday. Her head was of course right on my boob. I would have flipped my shit for real at a stranger.

  • A stranger touched LO's head when I was carrying in a ring sling. She was worried because his head was against the metal ring... Thanks, totally aware and about to put him in the car, don't touch my baby!
  • Dude, I once had a lady take her foot out of her flip flop and touch it to DS's bare foot. He was older- about a year old I think... But her fluckin bare ass foot! Gah!!!! I died a little inside for humanity that day.

  • Last month a little girl tried to touch LO's cheek as I was pushing her in the stroller past her. I gave that girl a death glare and was thisclose to putting a beat down on her. I only didn't because it was a child, if it was someone who really knew better I'd rip them apart.

I am massively in the minority here. I don't mind ppl touching LO. It's never bothered me. If it was a premie it'd be different. But he's healthy and I really don't think a brief pat on the head or well meaning squeeze will do harm.

    But to each their own.

ETA: maybe I should've put this under UO.
  • I would never touch another human stranger in public on purpose. Child or not.

  • I would flip if a stranger tried to touch my son. Hell, I got annoyed at this one gross little girl in daycare (not in his main class, thankfully) trying to touch his car seat with her slimy, tiny hands.

I agree I don't mind if someone briefly touches her hand or foot, but I mean very briefly. I've had elderly women come up to me and comment on how cute she is and then touch her hand, or cheek.
  • I still keep a blanket over the carseat when I take DS out for this reason! It usually does the trick at keeping people at a safe distance, but just last week an elderly woman reached over and moved his blanket to look at him. I had my hands full and was so worried she would touch him. All I managed was a rushed "please don't wake him up!", and she backed off. I would never ever touch a baby I didn't know...

    What. The. Holy. Fuck.
This. What chain of events had to happen to allow this woman to whip off her shoe and touch his foot? I would have lost my shit on her.

We were standing in line at the mall food court. DS1 was in his stroller kicking his cute fat little feet when the lady ahead of us commented on how cute he was. Innocent enough, right? She then proceeded to step out of her sandal and playfully touch their toes together. My mouth dropped and I asked "Did you seriously just put your bare foot on my kid?" Then I just stepped out of line and left. I really wish I would have stayed so I could whip off my shoes and put them on her plastic food tray.
I totally wet-wiped the shit out of him before loading him back in the car that day.

  • Completely gross on the foot-to-foot touching!! I woulda freaked!

Luckily I haven't had to deal with strangers touching yet. A couple old ladies have peeked at him while I I always put a blanket over to deter the 'touchers'. I'm a germaphobe anyway, so strangers' hands freaked me out even before LO was born! :)
