Chicco Nextfit

We recently purchased a Chicco Nextfit and I was excited about it since it seemed to have great reviews.  Just wondering if any of you out there that have one also have any trouble with the chest buckle coming undone?  I will be driving down the road and hear my little guy say "uh oh!"  I will glance in my mirror and sure enough it is undone.  I'm not sure if he is doing it or if it is coming undone on it's own.  Also, I'm finding the strap you pull to tighten the harness is really hard to pull and wondering if anyone else has experienced either of these things with this carseat?  Thanks for any input or advice!

Re: Chicco Nextfit

  • I don't have one but have read that the strap to tighten will get easier over time...almost like you have to break it in a bit.

As for the chest clip, if you're sure he is not undoing it himself, I would call Chicco.  This should be something that they will take care of for you as it should not be coming undone by itself that easily.

  • We have had one for 4 months and haven't had the chest buckle come undone. The strap to tighten the harness is still very difficult to pull tight enough. It is not as easy to use as the chicco keyfit. But that is my only issue with it so far.

  • We've had the nextfit for about 8 months and love it. I have never had the chest clip come open. If you still have the receipt I would take it back and tell them what's going on and see if you can exchange it for a new one. The strap does get easier with time.

  • We have one and it is hard to tighten the straps even after 2 months of use.  The chest clip never has come undone. I would pay close attention to see if LO is unbuckling it. Or if you get another clip and it comes undone, you will find out quickly it is LO  lol.   The advice I heard was to pull the chest clip and shoulder pads down, clip the crotch buckle, tighten it, then clip the chest clip and move that and the pads up.  The advice has made it easier.  Good luck!
  • I have one & I havent had problems like that.. I would definatley try to exchange.

  • I don't have this seat but just wanted to throw an FYI out there - you cannot replace the harness on this seat, which is a huge drawback.  If anything happens to it you have to buy a whole new seat.  So make sure to never saturate those straps or use any cleaners on them because that would automatically mean replacement, which you can't do!

  • I have two of them and have never had the chest clip come undone. I have found that the trick to tightening the straps is to pull the strap covers down and then the straps can slide back into the seat much easier, then once it is as tight as you want it, push the strap covers and the chest clip up into place.
  • I have had this since August have not had the clip come undone at all! Take it back to the store- we actually had to have the store person show us how to use it but smooth sailing ever since.
