DIY inserts for BB

Would it be possible to make my own inserts for the BB's and even attach a snap so they can be snapped down?
I love the covers, but I feel like I could save a little GREEN by making a handful of my own inserts.

What do you think?

I did using some old flannel sheets back before I was able to order more -- I didn't attach snaps and I have used them in other diaper covers.  If you put "too many" layers of flannel together like I did (I did about 10 layers on my first couple of attempts) they are too thick to bunch up even without the snaps (but not thicker than the MF BB inserts).  The attempts that came out with too few layers work great to add absorbency to the prefolds.
