What age in a big bed?

Trying to think about rooms and beds for when the new baby comes. Robert will be a little over 2 when the new baby starts sleeping in his/her own room. Is that too early for him to have a big boy bed? His crib does convert to a bed, but we could just re-use it for the new baby and get him a big bed.

Re: What age in a big bed?

  • Tucker is switching to a twin bed (we'll add rails) when he's 2 or a little before. I'm very undecided. He'll be 21 months when #2 comes along. Originally I wanted him settled into his new room before the baby is born, but putting him in a real bed at 19/20 months seems too soon.

Nathaniel went into the big boy bed at 2 (a full size bed) and it was a disaster. I wish I would have waited another year. He sleeps well enough in it now though.

What made it a disaster? Was it too big or was he just not ready? My biggest fear us switching tucker will cause him to regress into the awful sleeper he was up until just this summer.

  • My fear is, how do you keep them in bed?

Hm... Asher turned 3 in June and he's still in his crib. He hasn't tried to climb out yet although I'm sure he could easily. I'm certainly not pushing it.... I'm keeping that kid caged as long as possible!
Whew, I was thinking that I was caging G for the hell of it.  She turned 3 Sept. 29 and seems quite content in her crib.  She has yet to try and climb out.  Personally, I have major anxiety of this issue and my husband is pushing it.  I feel if it isn't broke why fix it??  I know eventually we will have to switch her over but, I envision her playing, roaming, and ending up in our bed.
